Miss being at home?

“The very best tip that I can recommend to make life at Chatham easier is for students to make friends with their professors, administration, housekeeping, maintenance workers, and dining hall workers,” says Shannon Ward. “Too often, people do not bother to get to know the staff, and this is a mistake. Not only are they genuinely very kind and selfless people, but getting to know them offers benefits in the long run for both parties. People are more willing to look out for those that treat them well.”

Need energy fast?

“Getting a Dexter at Cafe Rachel (a milkshake with hazelnut syrup and a shot of espresso) definitely saved me a few times my first year.” – Stephanie Welling

Looking for a parking spot?

“If you’re a commuter you can park for free on Shady Avenue.” – Kaitlin Tomko

Running to your morning class?

“If you’re getting breakfast at Cafe Rachel, be sure to arrive at least 20 minutes before the meal time ends at 10,” says Gretchen Geibel. “Otherwise, there’s a good chance that the line will be too long and you’ll miss out on using your meal (or be late for your 10 o’clock class!).”

Trying to stay warm?

“Cafe mocha with skim milk is great for early mornings, or even the hot apple cider when it’s cold out!” – Brittany DeMeno

Figuring out your future career?

“Talk to your professors,” says Rosemary Davies. “Most professors will rave on about their research; don’t forget to ask them about their projects! They will get you involved, whether for your tutorial or independent study. (And get some insider tips about their field too!)”

Searching for a new study spot?

“Some say studying in the basement of the chapel is great, but it creeps me out so I tend to shy away from there, and study in the library or my room.” – Brittany DeMeno

Looking for an alternative to coffee?

“Peppermint green tea is better than coffee as a pick-me-up beverage,” says Amy Chau. “Green tea has antioxidants that makes you look prettier and healthier!”
