Abby Beckwith

Year:

Class of 2016

Hometown and what you love about it:

Russleton, PA; its small and cute and quaint

Area of study and how you chose it:

Creative Writing and English; I just love books, reading them and writing them

Why did you choose Chatham?

I fell in love with Chatham at first sight; it was the beauty and the charm and the courses

What advice do you have for prospective students making their college decision?

Pick a school for you and your future, pick a place where you can branch out, pick a place where you can see yourself growing up and finding who you are

What’s surprised you most about Chatham so far?

I’m genuinely surprised how much I grew here. I came out of my shell, I learned about the world, I became a feminist, I learned what I am starting to want for my future

Childhood Dream Job:

Teacher

Current Dream Job:

Teacher or working in book publishing

If you could only eat at one Pittsburgh restaurant for a full year, which one would you pick and why?

I love that PIttsburgh has soooo many places to eat, and oh so many small, family-owned places. I don’t know if I could pick one place for a whole year, but I know I’d love to only eat at small, family-owned places for a year; this is a potential goal of mine.

If you could be best friends with any movie character, who would you pick and why?

I’d love to be best friends with Captian Jack Sparrow. He’s just so fun and quirky and makes everyone wonder why they hang out with him. But he does have a heart of gold. I think we’d make great friends.

If you could join the cast of any TV show, which one would you pick and why?

I love supernatural so much. I’m a little (a lot) obsessed. I love the characters and their relationship and dedication to each other. This show has helped me get through a lot of dark times the past two plus years. But at the same time, I don’t think I’d want to join the show…I’d be dead pretty quickly.

You have a friend visiting Pittsburgh for one day, and you’re planning the itinerary. Where do you take them?

I would take my friend to the zoo first. I love the zoo. We’d spend maybe an hour at the elephant exhibit cause they’re just so cute. And we’d go to a lot of the museums in Oakland. We’d definetly eat a lot of the local food too. wink emoticon *Being an English and Creative Writing double major, I can’t pick just one book. Its like picking a favorite child; you can do it, but you’d just hurt everyone else’s feelings.

You can live in the world of one book for a day. Which one do you choose and why?

Being an English and Creative Writing double major, I can’t pick just one book. It’s like picking a favorite child; you can do it, but you’d just hurt everyone else’s feelings.
