36 Reasons We Love Chatham’s Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chatham chapter.

1. Exploring Woodland Road is like stepping into a fairytale.

2. There are an abundance of bunnies.

3. And squirrels.

4. And cats who will let you pet them and cuddle with them and carry them around.

5. Need space? You’ve got 32 acres of it.

6. Chapel Hill is basically built to give you the best sled ride of your life.

7. The pond is filled with sparkling schools of fish.

8. And when it freezes, it’s naturally sculptural.

9. Anderson’s windows beautifully frame the campus…

10. …but they’re only outdone by the view from the AFC conference room.

11. You can watch a swim meet while you’re on the elliptical.

12. Or watch basketball practice from the elevated track.

13. There’s a rock climbing wall.

14. And a whirlpool.

15. You can see artists at work from the third floor of the Art and Design Center.

16. And you could play basketball on the second floor (It used to be a gym!).

17. The paths on campus loop and slope and make every walk an adventure.

18. The quad always has space for a beach blanket, a pile of leaves or a snowman.

19. In the early fall and spring, Café Rachel’s patio is filled with students sipping lattes and leafing through textbooks.

20. And when it’s snowing, there is no cozier spot on campus than a chair by the fireplace.

21. The classrooms in Braun/Falk/Coolidge are almost all filled with windows.

22. But there’s nothing better than a class outside.

23. Even in winter, a heavy dose of sunlight is always possible in Buhl Atrium.

24. The Laughlin Music Hall hosts occasions big and small…

25. …but the Founder’s Room is really where you connect with the history of your alma mater.

26. From the greenhouse, you can see the Downtown skyline stretching into the sunset.

27. But seeing the Chapel signals that you’re home.

28. Each residence hall is a transformed mansion, still maintaining the essence of its former owners.

29. With libraries, fireplaces and grand pianos, it’s easy to feel surrounded by luxury.

30. But there really is no topping a visit to Andrew Mellon’s place (and his portrait).

31. Just standing on the grand staircase makes you feel like you’re somewhere special.

32. And many Chatham students will tell you their favorite on-campus getaway is to the sunporch.

33. But really, anywhere on campus qualifies as a getaway. It’s always easy to have a space to yourself.

34. Yet it’s also beautiful to know that you’re never alone. What really makes this campus come alive? The people.

35. And while the campus is exactly what we’d hoped college would look like…

36. …Chatham is precisely what we hoped college would feel like, too.
