Amir Kelly ’18: The Male Beyoncé

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapman chapter.

Name: Amir Sinclair Kelly

Year: Freshman

Major: Vocal Performance

Hometown: Riverside, CA

What got you into music?

Music has always been a huge passion of mine. I remember singing every day when I was 3 years old, and I performed for the first time when I was 4. I used to get karaoke machines for every single holiday, and my favorite show has always been American Idol. I dressed up like a rock star for career day in the first grade. As I got older, I began to understand that I only felt free when I was singing, and that singing is the only way to truly convey words that cannot be spoken. I’ve been pursuing this dream my whole life.

Who are some of your favorite artists?

I love Beyoncé more than anyone can understand.

What is your favorite song at the moment?

Lately, I can’t seem to get the song “Paper Hearts” by Tori Kelly out of my head.

How would you describe your musical style?

I would definitely consider myself Pop/Soul, very similar to artists like Sam Smith and Beyoncé.

Why did you choose to come to Chapman?

I came to Chapman to get a strong classical voice foundation!

What are your aspirations for the future?

Male Beyoncé. Join me on my journey.
