On-Campus Resources for Dealing with Stress

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

The end of Spring semester can be a stressful time of year, between finals, moving out, finding a summer job or internship, and graduation for seniors — college can be pretty stressful in general! So here are so on-campus resources to help get you through the worst of the stress.

CAPS

Counseling and Psychological Services, or CAPS, can help a lot with stress! Having someone to talk to who won’t judge you and who isn’t too close to the situation can be super helpful in dealing with a wide range of problems. All first-time CAPS visitors have their first appointment through walk-in hours, which are Monday through Thursday from 9am to 12 noon and from 1pm to 4pm and Friday from 9:30am to noon and 1pm to 4pm.

Student Wellness

Most Tar Heels know Student Wellness from the Haven and Alcohol.edu programs we have to complete during our first year at UNC. But did you know that they also have various programs meant to help with things like Sleep, Stress, General Health and Wellness, Finances and so much more?

Healthy Heels Blog

The Healthy Heels blog is “your source for relevant, up-to-date news and analysis of health information directly related to UNC students.” Written by graduate and professional students, it’s meant to provide students with a place to learn, ask questions and have healthy, open discussions about health and wellness.

The Learning Center

The Learning Center has tips and tools for taming college stress available on their website all the time. Also, they occasionally hold workshops for dealing with stress, like the one on April 10 from 6pm to 7pm.

Covenant and Achieve Wellness Hours

This resource is just for Covenant and Achieve Scholars, but it can be super helpful. The Covenant and Achieve Office generally has wellness hours every Friday (check the emails for more information!), and they have several classes and workshops throughout the school year, some of which deal specifically with stress.

The Arboretum

This may sound kind of silly, but the Arboretum is a good place for dealing with stress! Stepping away from your work for a few minutes and getting out in nature can be calming and help you refocus.

Campus Rec

In the same vein as the Arboretum, Campus Rec can be helpful in managing stress. You get away from your work for a while and sweat out the stress! Remember what Elle Woods taught us: exercise gives you endorphins, and endorphins make you happy.

What’s your favorite resource for managing stress?
