4 Tips on Making It to Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

Spring break is so close, yet so far away. It’s hard to look forward to something exciting and much needed when there’s so much that has to be done before you can finally venture out into your much deserved short-term freedom. Here’s a few things you can try to do the next week or two while still being productive enough to get your school work and vacation planning done.

  1. Plan. Plan. Plan.

Whether spring break is one week away or not, writing each task down can be helpful. If you don’t have a planner, just grab a sheet of paper or a Post-It. Jot down every homework assignment, quiz or exam that falls between now and spring break. On a separate page, write down tasks that need to get done for your trip. This can include packing, shopping, cleaning your room, or printing out plane tickets. Most importantly, scratch out each thing as it has been accomplished. You’ll feel so much better and productive and it will feel like spring break is quickly approaching.

2. Go Out for Dinner With Your Friends (or even stay in and have a movie night)

Make a reservation and invite a couple of your closest school pals for a nice, relaxing dinner. It will be a nice few hours to catch up before you all venture out of town. Good food is always a plus, too. If going out to dinner isn’t your style, invite some friends over for a movie/Netflix night. Pop some popcorn, order some pizza, and let the relaxation commence.

3. Pack for Your Trip a Little Each Day

Do not wait until the night before to pack. I repeat, do NOT wait until the night before to pack. Instead, take some time each night to put aside some clothes you know you’ll definitely need before your trip. One night could be dedicated to shoes and one could be for swimwear/athletic gear. You will thank yourself later when your suitcase is all set to go by your door as you go to bed the night before break starts.

4. Don’t Forget to Treat Yourself Along the Way

You work really hard and that warrants some credit. Yes, this break is much needed and is much deserved. It’s important to stay focused on your work and exams, but at the same time, it’s also important to take care of yourself. Take a bubble bath. Put on a face mask. Finish a whole season of your favorite TV show. Get excited about your spring break vacay. Buy that cute purse. Eat the pint of ice cream. We need to do what makes us happy and what helps us get even just a minute of happiness and relief from our everyday lives is worth it.

So, finish the next week or two of classes strong, but be sure to take care of yourself along the way. Whether you’re spending break at home with your family or traveling with friends, enjoy yourself and relax. Remember to stay safe, make good choices, and to create great memories.
