Which Procrastinator Are You?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CAU chapter.

We all procrastinate, but for some of us it’s a lifestyle. No matter the task, it’s always put off until the last minute.

There are many different types of procrastinators. Which one(s) are you?

1.  The Productive Procrastinator

You know you should be doing your work, but you push it off to do something else that is important…Just not as urgent. For example, instead of doing your assignment that is due tomorrow, you find yourself doing lesser tasks like; cleaning your room, doing laundry or other small tasks. You’ve cleaned the kitchen, folded your laundry, done a new load, cleaned your room, but your 10 page English paper that is due tomorrow, hasn’t even been started yet.

2. The Timing Procrastinator

Have you ever told yourself you’d start doing something at a certain time but you keep pushing the time back? “I’ll do it in 30 minutes”….When the 30 minutes pass, you hear yourself saying “I’ll do it in 30 minutes” again. At this point, it becomes a vicious cycle and you push off your task for another day.

3. The Watcher

We’ve all said “after this episode,” but then we find ourselves up past our bedtime and 16 episodes further into the show than anticipated, meanwhile your task at hand has yet to be started.

4. The Social Media Floater

This procrastinator bounces from one social media platform to another rather than getting their work done. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, shoot…Might even try to log into their old MySpace account for good laughs. There’s always something going on on social media. Wouldn’t want to miss anything. Right?

5. The Snacking Procrastinator

“I can’t study on an empty stomach”….”Brain food is important.” There’s always an excuse! You go into the kitchen for a snack, then you find yourself cooking a full course meal. What else could you do though?

6. The Social Butterfly

You find ANY and EVERY reason to talk to someone. Your assignment can definitely wait. You’d rather FaceTime bae, or talk to your roommate for 4 hours about pointless topics. You might even call that cousin you haven’t talked to in 8 years just to catch up and see how she’s doing.

7. The Napper

This procrastinator is usually a follow up to “the Snacking Procrastinator.” You finish making a meal, so the “itis” kicks in and you take a nap. This may also be the solution to being tired and “needed a little nap before finish the task”. It usually ends up being a full nights rest rather than just a nap.

8. The Daring Procrastinator

You KNOW you can start the assignment early, but why not challenge yourself? Sometimes the greatest products come from last minute assembly. Your professor tells you this assignment isn’t something that can be done last minute, but that comment makes you feel underestimated so you do it last minute anyway.

9. The Adventurous Procrastinator

You don’t want to do your work so you find somewhere to go instead. This procrastinator will travel just for the fun of it because they cannot sit still. You might even end up in Savannah, GA when you really live in Atlanta.

10. The Vampire Procrastinator

This procrastinator always says “I work better late nights or early mornings,” so they sleep the whole day away and plan to get work done at 3 am. But we all know that doesn’t work well. That’s just another way to push things off and that the work doesn’t get done in the time frame planned.

We can all agree that even though we procrastinate, the task at hand gets done. Whew, that was close!
