Death to Situationships Podcast Review

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CAU chapter.

Rodney Perry is an alum of Clark Atlanta University. I’ve been subscribed to his podcast titled “The Simple King Podcast” for a couple of months now, but his latest episode on situationships really caught my attention.

If you have not seen the #hurtbae video where a former couple sat down and the woman asks her ex why he cheated, then you’ve been under a rock. After seeing the video, Rodney was inspired to talk about black love, relationships, and his opinion on dealing with difficult relationships. Also featured on the podcast is another alum of CAU, Ty Coleman. Honestly, I feel like this podcast is so relatable in so many different ways. Often times, people become “in like” with each other, but are afraid to have a title and then, unfortunately, it turns into a “situationship.” It is unfortunate that us, as young people often fall victim to giving more in a relationship than the other person involved, or vice versa. We as people need to start being honest from the start of a relationship. Our intentions need be put plain and simple, because if you just want to have sex, but the other person is thinking that an actual relationship is going to bloom out the current situation, it’s not only unfair to them, but both people’s time has now been wasted. Something that was said in the podcast that really stood out to me was, “Sometimes you have to get what you want, to know it’s not what you need.” We can go after a person and give our all to them and think they are truly here for the long haul, but when things go sour and they turn out to be somebody you thought they could never be, I have learned that it is a blessing in disguise. It is better to wait for what you need and deserve, rather than to chase what you think you want. The podcast allows the listener to get the male and female perspective on situationships and how they should no longer be considered a thing.  Overall, this episode really intrigued me because a lot of the opinions that were mentioned by both Rodney and Ty were similar to my opinions on situationships. If you are interested in hearing the full episode, as well as others,
