If you never watched Love, the Netflix original series, you are missing out two things: a TV show that talks about real (and modern) relationship drama and amazing references of clothes and looks from Mickey Dobbs, played out by Gillian Jacobs.
Besides de iconic look from the first episode, maillot and high waist pants – which is recycled in the second episode along with a plaid shirt, that gave a totally different style for the character –, Jennifer Eve, the series costume designer, said in an interview for Elle magazine that “the idea is to make Mickey be a realistic character with a real closet and a person that uses the same clothes more than one time, just like anyone else”. Mission accomplished!
In the series, Mickey is 32 and is far away from being an adult that always wears social clothes. When you pay attention to the way she dress, you realize that being an adult does not mean to drop out of your closet because “you need to dress like a grown up”. In fact, Love is also a great reference for the capsule wardrobe, a concept that is very popular nowadays. In many episodes, Mickey wears the same pieces of clothing: the boots that make every look stylish, the basic and trashy white t-shirt, a coverall, a plaid shirt… Clothes that we already have or can easily find at fast fashion stores.

In Brazil, the journalist Dani Kopsch adapted the idea with 50 pieces of clothing to live for an entire year! You don’t need to adhere to the capsule wardrobe, however you can have great ideas with Mickey’s references – and the key clothes that can be used to go out or even go to work.
