Have you ever experienced hearing a sound so good that makes you instantly relax? We are not talking about music or songs, but strange sounds like people chewing, whispers or even the sound of a broom sweeping the floor! If you never experienced something like this, you probably have never heard about ASMR.

Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is a biological phenomenon which basically gives you a pleasant feeling on the head, scalp, ears, or even on others body parts by visual and auditory stimulus. The ASMR is transmitted by videos, mainly.

Since 2010, when the first experiences reports appeared, the ASMR got more and more known. Today, there are blogs, videoblogs and videos on Youtube for this practice, and a lot of people love it. There are more than 11 million of videos on Youtube with “ASMR” on the title, and channels like Sweet Carol, which has about 600 thousand subscribers and more than 100 million of views.

Carolina Rossi, owner of the channel and the site “Sweet Carol”, produces videos of all type of content to make you relax: videos brushing the camera, passing lotion on the hands, whispering words and even roleplays pretending to be a journalist, a nurse from the First World War and a doctor cleaning the viewer’s ears.

The ASMRtists (people who works with it) says that the experience just will be full joinable and effective if you watch the videos with your headphones on and in a silent room, paying full attention to the feeling. A tip is to turn off the notifications on your cell phone so you won’t get distracted.

A few years ago, whispering into a camera wasn’t exactly a career path, but today this kind of video has become not only a trending but a way to make a living. Also, companies are seeing this like a new opportunity of promoting its brands, like, IKEA (furniture and home accessories company), which last year developed an advertising series called “Oddly IKEA” with ASMR-style videos, using items like pillows, bed sheets and hangers which were gently stroked to make the customer feel relaxed and want to buy it.

Want to experience it? Here you have some famous channels where you can find ASMR videos and watch it. Put your headphones on and let it happen!
