5 Movies You Don’t Want to Miss This Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Carthage chapter.

Spring is right around the corner! What better way to finally break out of the house than to make plans with friends and go see that movie you’ve all been DYING to see since you saw the trailer in December? Here are five movies for all different types of movie fanatics out there.

1. A Wrinkle in Time – March 9

This Disney adaptation takes you on an exciting adventure with an all-star cast, including Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon and Oprah Winfrey. The movie follows Meg, a middle school student who’s desperate to find something special about herself. The journey that soon follows allows her to travel in time, but she must make it back to Earth by defeating an unknown evil.

2.  Love, Simon – March 16

This movie takes a new spin on romantic movies. Based on the novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli, this movie follows Simon, a high school student who has kept his homosexuality a secret from his friends and family. He finds recluse in an anonymous classmate through online chat, and falls for them. Casting includes Katherine Langford from 13 Reasons Why and many fresh faces that are sure to be a hit. If you’re a hopeless romantic, this movie is for you.

3. Ready Player One – March 29

If you’re a fan of director Steven Spielberg, get ready. Ready Player One takes place in the near future where a video game becomes the most popular game and pastime. The deceased creator places an “easter egg” within the game, promising riches beyond one’s wildest dreams. The main character, Wade, becomes the first player to pass the game’s first level, leading to an intense race for the world to find the riches.

4. The Miracle Season – April 13

Love a good comeback story? The Miracle Season is based on a true story about Iowa City’s West High School women’s volleyball team. After losing their star player to a tragic death, the team must come together to make it to the state championship. This movie is bound to be a tearjerker (or at least I’ll be crying in the theater).

5. Truth Or Dare? – April 13

I love a good scary movie. Or even the seemingly cheesy slasher movies. Blumhouse’s Truth or Dare? is definitely a movie that will either keep you up at night or confidently saying, “HA, that wasn’t even scary!” This movie follows a group of teens who decide to play the classic game of truth or dare; however, when some of them start to lie, another force decides to punish whoever lies during the game. So, everyone… truth or dare?

No matter your movie taste, there’s definitely a new movie coming soon that’s sure to excite you. I cannot wait until $5 Tuesdays at the local theaters, because I plan on seeing all of these new spring movies! If you just can’t wait to find out what happens, you can read A Wrinkle in TimeSimon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, Ready Player One and The Miracle Season right now!
