What’s your ideal date? I prefer doing more laid back things. I’m not very difficult to please so probably something outdoors in the summer, like going to the beach or swimming or something like that. My perfect date would be while I was having fun. I like being active and outside, so that would impress me more, a guy that I could do something with.

Turn Ons? Guys who are athletic, and have a sense of humor. He has to be someone who I can trust and easy to be around. I like everything to be easy.

Turn Offs? Guys who smell bad and guys who are too clingy.

What’s your worst date experience? One time I went on a date with someone, and I went to his house to meet up with him and his mom goes “Oh my god, he talks about you all of the time like we’ve heard so much about you” and I was like ummm.. and that was a pretty awkward beginning to a date. The rest of the date was subsequently awkward. I obviously didn’t call him back.

What was high school like for you? It was good, I really enjoyed high school because I went to an arts school. I liked to get involved, I did a lot of different things like student government and played sports while doing theatre so I was pretty busy. Theatre was my favourite extra-curricular though.

So what type of guy do you prefer, a theatre geek or an athlete? I think you need to find someone who has a balance. You need someone who can appreciate both the arts and sports. I like a guy who is active, but he has to enjoy the arts as well. But at the end of the day they have to be down-to-earth, and unfortunately, arts guys are sometimes pretentious.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be? Paris, because I love the city and culture.

Why did you decide to move to Ottawa? I liked the big city feel, but because I’m from a very small town it was intimidating going into a big city. I like the vibe of Ottawa, and how it’s a city with that small town feel. I was also drawn to Carleton because of the journalism program.

Is journalism really as prestigious as it sounds? It’s really intimidating and there’s a lot of work, so if you truly want to be a journalist you’ll do all the work. The students here are truly passionate about journalism.

Do you have any advice to HC Girls starting out university in a long distance relationship? It’s all about communication and making time for each other even though you’re really far apart. You just have to stay involved in each other’s lives. It’s doable! Everybody who tells you it’s impossible is wrong!

Anything other last words for HC Girls? I believe that anything is possible as long as you work at it.
