Thank You For Being A Friend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal U chapter.

Choosing to go to a school 200 miles from home has changed me in so many ways, it taught me to be more independant and to rely less on other people. It also taught me the importance of friendship.

I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the friends I’ve made since coming here. I’ve had people support me through good times and bad. I’ve had people there to pick me up when I’m down and show me kindness when I needed it the most.

Though friendships have started and ended, I am still grateful for the lessons that I’ve learned from each person I’ve met. I have grown so much because of the people that have come into my life that have shown me different pieces of the world that I haven’t experienced for myself.

I have some of the most beautiful friends in the world, both inside and out. Their smiles, optimism, and humor have kept me sane and have been a light in my life when there doesn’t seem to be any.

They’ve shown me how to love myself. They have shown me to look at the positive things about who I am. They have pointed out my strengths instead of my insecurities. They build me up instead of tearing me down.

They’ve shown me that I can appreciate the beauty in other people without feeling threatened by the things they have. They have shown me that other women are not the enemy, that there really isn’t as much drama as people think, and that support from other females is key.

My friends have pointed out that there is always a silver lining. The bad times will end, and they’ll end a lot sooner thanks to them having my back. They try their best to show me love when I can’t find enough of it for myself.

They are there to make me laugh at all the right times. Sometimes, knowing that I get to see them at the end of a really long day is the only thing that gets me through. They constantly remind me how much they love having me around. They make me feel important, valued, and genuinely cared for.

Whether I’ve known them for months or only a couple of weeks, they fill my life with so much happiness and uncontainable laughter. I am forever grateful that I’ve met these people and that they love me just as much as I love them.

Thank you for being a family to me, thank you for showing me the good things about myself when I don’t even feel like they exist. Thank you for loving me for who I am. Thank you for your friendship.
