3 Easy Steps To Make It Seem Like You’re “Put Together”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal U chapter.

I remember having lunch with my friends awhile back and I was ranting about how guys are never interested me. One of my friends had made a statement that got me thinking; she said “Guys are interested in you but they say you are just so put together and they are intimated by that.” Then it occurred to me, I’m not put together, not in the slightest bit. I have emotional break downs at least once a week, I’m socially awkward, I’m in over my head most of the time, I’m a hermit who likes to watch anime and bob’s burger 24/7 and I have an unhealthy obsession with Chinese food. I’m not put together; I just know how to fake it well. So here’s my guide to help a fellow peer who wants to get their life in order or simply wants to give off the illusion.

Step 1: Dress to impress

The title might be a little misleading, I’m not saying you should dress up like you’re about to walk a red carpet but a little effort does go a long way. Sometimes it wouldn’t hurt to run a brush through your hair and iron or steam out the shirt you’re wearing. My mother always told me “your outwards appearance says a lot about you.” I never thought much into what she said until my senior year of high school when I had my first CO-OP job and realized that I can’t just wear sweatshirts and leggings every day.

Step 2: Always look busy

When people see me I always look like I’m in a rush to get somewhere, when in fact I just walk fast. I pop in my headphones, carry my big bag and I’m off. What’s in a big bag you ask? Well nothing really, just one note book, my laptop, a bottle of water, and some sort of snack. The bigger the bag the more people will think you have to do.

Step 3: Join an organization

Joining an organization is way to keep yourself occupied, preferably an organization that’s heavily involved on your campus. The organization I joined hostess a lot of events so when people see me outside of class it’s always at these events.

That’s all I do. These three things combined is the best cover. No one ever has too know I’m in bed by 6 watching family feud. Well if you’re reading this, you know.
