Her Campus Cal Poly interviewed Taylor Yoshitake, a 20 year old, third year Communications major at Cal Poly, who currently holds the number one position on the Cal Poly Women’s Golf Team. Yoshitake fell in love with golf at a young age and made it her sole focus, besides school, in ninth grade. It wasn’t until her senior year in high school that she decided she wanted to make playing professional golf her future career and decided that Cal Poly was the right place to prepare for that dream.
While at Cal Poly, Yoshitake met current boyfriend and fellow athlete, Andre Dome. Andre Dome is a fifth year, Industrial Technology major, who is the number one player on the Cal Poly’s Men’s Tennis team and was ranked twentieth in pre-season national standings. Together the couple is driven in academics and collegiate athletics, but is also devoted to each other.
Her Campus: So Taylor, how did you and Andre meet?
Taylor Yoshitake: “The first time I met him I called him ‘fat.’ I saw him stretching in the training room and I said to him, ‘Only fat people stretch.’
Andre Dome: “My self-esteem went down a little. Then later when I saw her studying in Mott Gym. I went up to her and asked, ‘How’s your homework going?’ After that, I invited her to a party.
Taylor Yoshitake: “He said that his phone was broken, so he needed me to text him my number.”
Her Campus: So how long have you two been dating since your encounter in Mott Gym?
TY: “It’s been a year now. We celebrated our anniversary Feb. 2, 2013.”
Her Campus: How does your demanding sports schedule play a role on your relationship?
TY: “I only get to see him on weekday nights for dinner, because of class and practice. It’s tough because we don’t get to see each other during the day. We always see each other when we’re tired.”
AD: “We also don’t get a lot of weekends together. On our anniversary I had a match and she had a tournament. We made it work and went out to dinner to celebrate.”
