Poly Places: Arnold, CA, Our Winter Wonderland

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

Wintertime in California is a glorious time of 60 degree weather and beautiful sunsets on the beach. Just like many other students of Cal Poly, though, my friends and I longed for a little more winter spirit in the form of falling snow. San Luis Obispo has many snowy areas by to escape to, but our group chose Arnold, CA as our destination. So, we all packed our snow gear and went north for a long weekend.

Arnold, CA provides a perfect winter cabin atmosphere for a fun getaway. There are slopes nearby for the avid skier or snowboarder, but the decent weather also allows for the adventurer to go walking in the snow to a nearby lake (as we did). The beauty of the snow in conjunction with your rosy cheeks and nose just about makes you want to start singing carols once again.

So, if any of you Poly students are itching for a little snow time and don’t know a place to go to, I recommend you give Arnold a try. The drive isn’t too bad (at least for a girl who has to drive home to San Diego) and the experience is so worth it.

Veronica Valley is currently a third year Industrial Engineering major at Cal Poly SLO. You can usually find her in the library burried under a pile of math books, calling out for help. She has a deep love for sushi and cannot, for the life of her, control herself from buying the terrible kind they sell at Trader Joe's. If you ever ask her if she's down for Trader Joe's or Target, the answer will always be yes, and she will ALWAYS end up going to both. On a more serious note, she is very involved on the Cal Poly campus in a wide variety of engineering related clubs and pushes herself to one day become the next Sheryl Sandberg (aka her role model). Her main concern is trying to promote more girls to get in STEM fields and will dedicate her college time to promoting just that. E-mail her at vvalley@calpoly.edu
Dakota Greenwich is a Cal Poly 3rd year English Major, studying for her undergraduate and minors in linguistics and graphic communications. This is her 2nd year writing for Her Campus and in her spare time, she works at the Kennedy Library, studies, and blogs. She loves to discuss and research current social issues including women's rights and political issues. If you don't see her working at my campus library or studying, you can find her at her favorite coffee shop, Scout Coffee, reading a thriller novel.
