Go Adventuring With Joy Lomax

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

Lover of adventure, avocado trees and farmer’s markets, Joy Lomax is no ordinary human bean. She might tell you she is, but don’t believe her. Between her cheery disposition and genuine kindness, Joy embodies her name in every sense and meets every opportunity with newfound excitement. I know… I sound like I’m a walking-talking personal advertisement for Joy, but track her down on campus and spend a minute with her, and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Rapid-Fire Question Time:

HC: What’s your favorite movie?

JL: Oh, I don’t really watch movies. I like Frozen.

HC: If you had front row tickets to the band of your choosing, who would you want to see perform?

JL: Vance Joy. No wait, I take it back…. I would choose Ed Sheeran.

HC: If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

JL: Well, I really am liking the quinoa with spinach recently, so probably that. With sweet potatoes. Lots of sweet potatoes. And onion and garlic and crushed chips on top. Oh, I almost forgot the feta cheese.

HC: Ideal first date?

JL: Maybe a walk on the coast, or drinking tea under the stars.

HC: What is one adventure you’d like to take?

JL: I want to go to Ireland. Maybe New Zealand. Actually, I think I’d want to sail to the Mediterranean and island/country hop in Europe.

HC: What’s the most important thing you’ve learned in college so far?

JL: It’s okay to do stuff on your own. Independence. Being bold. Not being concerned about my reputation or how others view me. Coming into college I felt like it was very important for me to be known, and now I know that I have a place here.

Also, remember from time to time that school’s not that big of a deal. Study as much as you have fun. I’m still learning lots of things about life here.

HC: What’s your life motto?

JL: Come as you are, and be all there.

HC: Favorite Farmer’s market food:

JL: Well, I go to three Farmer’s Markets a week. Saturday morning, Thursday night and Monday afternoon. I love Shins. I love to sample everything, I usually don’t end up buying food. And sometimes I buy flowers when I’m feeling blessed financially.

HC: Fondest college memory?

JL: Oh, that’s so hard. Right now is pretty legit. I’m currently sitting in a hammock with a pillow and a blanket with Vance Joy playing.

HC: Favorite SLO activities:

JL: I love Morro Bay in the morning. Exploring Pirate’s cove. Biking to the beach. Hiking Bishop’s.

HC: Favorite coffee place:

JL: Scout Coffee. I’m their number one fan.

HC: If you could have one pet, what would it be?

JL: Ugh, I don’t really like animals too much. I really don’t. I think an avocado tree as a pet would be nice.

HC: Kiss, Marry, Murder: Channing Tatum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ryan Gosling.

JL: Marry Ryan Gosling, Kiss Channing Tatum, Murder Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

We’d have to agree with ya there, Joy.
