Festive Foods: A Review of Fall Flavored goodies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

With the change of seasons comes the most anticipated time for those with a yearning for the return of Pumpkin flavored foods. October is synonymous with the release of pumpkin-filled and nutmeg-spiced treats– from coffee to cookies. Bring on the taste testing, because we have your ultimate guide to all of your favorite foods with a fall twist.

1. SLO-DO-CO Pumpkin Raised

It’s a little twist on one of the classics… The Pumpkin raised donut has just enough of nutmeg and pumpkin flavoring without an overbearing insult to the classic donut lovers. The frosting is even designed to make it look a Jack O’ Lantern. S’cute.

2. Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte

The famous PSL. Honestly, not sure if our expectations matched the hype around this flavored coffee drink. The flavor of coffee gets masked by the overpowering spice flavored syrups they add to the drink. Although it is yummy, it’s not the particular favorite of the bunch. Sorry to all the Starbs lovers.

3. Pumpkin Flavored Jo-Jo’s

Jo-Jo’s are pretty freakin’ delicious to begin with. Pair this with with a little nutmeg, vanilla and pumpkin spice filling and you’ve got one amazing dessert. I’m proud to say I’ve once eaten ten in under two minutes.

4. SLO-DO-CO Caramel Apple Cake Donut

We saved the best for last. A bite of this donut is pure bliss… Apple cinnamon, caramel flavored bliss. I’ll admit I was skeptical about the caramel frosting, but all in all this is probably one of my favorite donuts I’ve ever eaten. Coming from a girl who’s tried almost every flavor at SLO-DO-CO, that means a lot.

5. Starbucks Salted Caramel Mocha

Before real life came and slapped us on our sleep-deprived behinds, our go-to was always de-caffeinated, sugary coffee beverages. In times of a sugar rush and need for caffeine, the Salted Caramel Mocha is guaranteed to give you the jittery, caffeine boost you needed, and will fulfill your craving for seasonal sweets. What beats caffeine paired with caramel mocha, you ask? Nothing.

6. Peet’s Pumpkin Latte

Peet’s Pumpkin Latte is for the hardcore coffee drinkers. If you’re used to your daily cup of joe and aren’t afraid of a bit more of a coffee-taste, then this is your drink! The taste of the latte isn’t too overpowering with pumpkin, and has undertones of nutmeg and cinnamon spices. We’d drink five in a row if given the chance.

Now that you’ve read this list, you have an excuse to go out and stuff your faces with lots of delicious Fall treats.
