Have you ever woken up and just felt off? Even after your morning Jo?

Well my friend, there is a reason for that. There just may be some blocked energy in your body that you aren’t necessarily aware of. According to Hindu tradition, energy passes through our body by little portals called Chakras. Let’s focus on the seven that you actually feel.

1. Root Chakra

Where: Lower back where your spine ends

The root chakra is responsible for your sense of being grounded and secure. Blocked energy here can make you feel threatened and even paranoid. You’re likely to feel a general sense of imbalance.

Clear it by: Stomping your foot on the ground a few times. Say aloud, “This is life. I am human.” This should reassure you that some things are out of your control and that’s okay.

2. Sacral Chakra

Where: Slightly under your belly button, couple of inches in

The sacral chakra is the feel good chakra. It helps drive your emotions, creativity, desire and openness. When this little guy is blocked, you’ll often feel unwilling to try new experiences. You’ll feel more comfortable sticking to routine instead of letting loose.

Clear it by: Flip to a page in a book, randomly choose a word and do something related to that word. Be creative and push yourself to do something magical with that word. Remember that life is short and you should always make the most of it.

3. Solar Plexus Chakra

Where: center stomach

This one gives you confidence. The solar plexus chakra is responsible for all things selfish (in a good way). It allows you to live confidently and with a strong sense of self-worth. Blocked energy here will make you feel small. It will make you feel weak and unaccomplished.

Clear it by: Snapping your fingers in a Z-formation and list a few things about yourself that you’re grateful for. Pin the list up by your bed so it’s the last thing you see before you close your eyes. Trust me, it will drastically improve how you view yourself, and consequently, your life.

4. Heart Chakra

Where: center chest

The heart chakra is ultra important. It’s responsible for your sense of unconditional love, sensitivity, devotion and authenticity. If your heart chakra is blocked, you’re not at peace with yourself. You may point out the negatives in others, refuse to get emotional or put on a façade.

Clear it by: Letting grudges go and viewing every stranger as a potential friend. Look others in the eye when speaking. Let every interaction be as natural as possible and don’t be afraid to smile at others who don’t smile back. They’ll appreciate it.

5. Throat Chakra

Where: inside your throat

If you’re feeling particularly quiet (like speaking is a chore) then your throat chakra may be blocked. Sometimes you may even feel like you’re not getting what you want. This chakra governs how openly we communicate with others and is equally as important as the heart chakra because it’s responsible for the truth.

Clear it by: Not analyzing every word you say. As ironic as it sounds, avoid planning out what to say. This should help every conversation flow as smoothly as possible. Also, keep it real by actually speaking your mind. Like I said, people appreciate that.

6. Third Eye Chakra

Where: between your eyebrows

Our two eyes see life day by day. Our third eye sees life as something more. It helps us understand the bigger picture by mixing past experiences with intuition. It’s our hub for making decisions that benefit us in the grand scheme of things. If you’re feeling indecisive or fidgety, your third eye may be taking a nap.

Clear it by: Firmly pressing the area between your brows while closing your eyes. This gives your physical eyes a break, letting your third eye see the world. Let your raw intuition guide more decisions and stop overthinking the little things.

7. The Crown Chakra

Where: top, center of head

If you’re feeling generally lifeless or disconnected with the world, your crown chakra is probably closed. This one helps you achieve total unity with yourself and the world. It’s responsible for your sense of “being.”

Clear it by: Sitting on the ground outside and inhaling as deep as you can. Think, “I am.”

Now you know just a few of your Chakras. If you do feel a bit out of sorts, resort to the tips above to be one with your inner self and redirect your energy in a positive and helpful way.
