Daniel Papp is the president of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional co-ed business fraternity, at Cal Poly. He is a third year Information Systems student who enjoys trolling and taking photographs.
Why did you decide to be President of Alpha Kappa Psi?
The people in Alpha Kappa Psi are some of the kindest, hardest working students on campus and it was very clear to me how much of a difference they all had to my college experience. I had a vision for shifting our fraternity’s programming in a manner that would better benefit our brothers as a way to ensure that everyone benefited at least as much as I did.
What is your favorite part of being president?
I never thought this would be the case, but my favorite part of being president is running general meetings. Seeing everyone’s smiling faces is my weekly reminder for why I took on this role. Even getting people to be quiet is sort of enjoyable because it means they can’t resist talking to each other.
Do you think that your education or leadership experience has prepared you for this role?
My experience as an Eagle Scout was helpful because it gave me practice in leading groups of passionate people who were around the same age as me.My education has probably only nominally prepared me for being president. Roles such as President are best prepared for by incrementally placing yourself in more and more difficult leadership positions.
What are your career aspirations?
I want to be a product manager. I could spend 50+ hours a week on being involved in creating something of value from nothing to something.
