26 Thoughts We All Have While Trying to Motivate Ourselves to Go to the Gym

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

Let’s be real. Going to the gym is hard work. However it’s not always your workout that takes the most effort, it’s finding the motivation to get yourself there. As you’re arguing with yourself as to whether or not making a trip to the Cal Poly Rec Center is actually worth it, here are a few thoughts that you may have floating through your mind…

If I go to the gym now that means I’ll have to shower, and that also takes a lot of effort.

But I should really go; I had Yo Cre today.

I only got one topping though, so do I really need to?

Yes, yes I do.

But this is the time that everybody goes! What if I can’t get a machine?

No it’ll be fine, I can work on my six-pack while I wait.

I don’t even know if I have any clean workout clothes…

When is the last time I did laundry?

Note to self: do laundry.

I should also really get some milk because we’re almost out.

Oh my god, focus! Gym. Let’s go.

Where did I put my running shoes? My room is a mess.

I could just stay here and get my English paper done…

But let’s be honest that won’t happen.

I should go; it’ll relieve my stress and make me feel better.

But then again, so will Netflix.

There are cute guys at the gym though. I mean that’s a plus.

And it’s almost summer! I need to get fit!

But I have the rest of the quarter to do that.

No I should go. I should just suck it up and go.

Except I’m still a little sore from the last time I went. Maybe I should rest.

Wait when is the last time I went to the gym…I can’t remember, this isn’t a good sign.

I’m already really tired; what if I just go first thing tomorrow?

Yeah, I’ll do that.

I’ll even set my alarm and wake up early so I can go before class.

That’s a great plan. Tomorrow it will be. Cal Poly Rec Center here I come.
