There’s Lots To Do at CMU!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C Mich chapter.

Listen up chips! Whether you’re an incoming freshman, a transfer student or simply a curious undergraduate, CMU offers over 400 on-campus clubs and organizations to their student body worth checking out. Each of these groups is suitable to a variety of interests, and there’s no better way to make friends and create lifelong memories. Take advantage of what this university has to offer and get involved in one of the many groups available here at CMU! Here are some of the most popular campus clubs to consider for your fall semester:

Music fan?

With 20 separate clubs that fit the description of music-oriented, there’s a little exploring to be done before deciding which best suits you. One of the most well-known singing groups on campus is called Central Harmony, which was founded in 2005 and is known to have featured some of CMU’s most talented singers thus far. American Choral Directors Association, otherwise known as ACDA has been around even longer (founded in 1959), another one of the more widely known singing groups here on campus. Not as interested in making use of your pipes? Try checking out Central Jazz Association, Moore Media Records, or Sike Productions.

Greek Life

Given the opportunity to be involved in various fundraisers, community service and academic activities, sororities and fraternities have more to offer than most people realize. Going Greek is one of the best ways to meet new people and form lifelong friendships through the bonds of Greek brotherhood and/or sisterhood. There are many aspects of leadership that come to play with this particular campus organization, as well as networking that is helpful in any career field that a student here at CMU may be considering in the future. Recruitments are scheduled for the week of September 26th, so get to talking to your fellow chips and learn more about this great college experience!

Sports

Even if you don’t consider your sporting abilities to be as impressive as some of CMU’s leading athletes, there’s plenty of recreational sports clubs that allow anyone to participate. Basketball, softball, volleyball, dance, track and many, many more! Although it isn’t a free source of entertainment, it’s certainly worth the cost. Make new friends and find out who on your campus enjoys participating in the same sports as you!

Media

Consider yourself a good writer or a lover of social media? If the answer is yes, there are plenty of student organizations here at CMU that will fit your interests. CM life is the university’s newspaper, open to new writers and those who are willing to fill a number of journalism positions. Head over to 436 Moore and talk to one of their representatives today! HerCampus is also a student organization that has been noticed more recently, launched in the fall semester of 2012 and currently gaining members. If television is more up your alley, Central Premiere Productions (CPP) is a co-curricular that allows CMU students to contribute to film making as well as video production. Another hands-on experience here on campus is the National Broadcasting Society (NBS), a group which focuses on putting on events and networking with those involved in the media industry.
