College is great, but it can also be hard and stressful.  We all know we need some guidance and sometimes it isn’t always right in front of us.  Mom and Dad, you do so much and we’re grateful for everything you do to remind us of all the things we have outside of school.  But this one’s for my grandparents, who often go unrecognized for their kindness.

Thank you for being wise.  The advice you give can be life-changing.  You’ve been through it yourselves and again with our parents.  You know the ups and downs of life and the outcomes we might possibly come across after making certain choices.  Although we might think you’re speaking gibberish, we truly love your opinions. And sometimes what you say might just be a funny joke, but I can honestly say I have been motivated by hearing your beautifully ridiculous poem of “Roses are red, violets are blue. Horses that lose are turned into glue.”

Thank you for being uplifting.  Whether it’s a funny joke or a good home-cooked meal, you make my mood rise by about 80%.  Let’s not forget your can-do attitude.  When it has been a day when we feel like giving up, you remind us that we can do it and that we just need to toughen up.

Thank you for showing us love. You make it clear that family is your world.  You love each other and you love us unconditionally every day.  When we make mistakes, you tell us it’s okay and that you still love us no matter what.

Thank you for you giving.  Money for school, new clothes, a card, or even just support, you have given me so much and for that, I can never repay you.  We don’t always deserve the things we get and it’s so hard to begin to thank you for all of it. Please know that we have so much gratitude for it even when it’s hard to express.

Thank you for being on our side. Occasionally we do things that Mom and Dad, or even our professors and friends, don’t agree with and you are the first to back us up.  Sometimes we just know we are right and we need that boost of encouragement that comes from someone standing with us.

Thank you for the little things.  When times are tough, it’s everything to see a little Halloween card in the mailbox or a text saying “have a good day!” Even just a comment on our Facebook posts is heartening.  The thought you put into each and every thing we come across reminds us that you’ll always be there.

Thank you for my parents.  If it weren’t for you, I would not have my wonderful parents.  Of course, they ask too many questions and might send too many texts at once, but overall they’re pretty great. I am lucky to have both them and you.

There is too much in life we need to thank you for, especially during college, and only so many ways to express it.  I just wanted you to know how grateful we are for you and everything that you do.  Whether you are still here with us or not, we recognize all that you do and we could not have asked for it to turn out better.  We love you guys!
