Fall Trend Spotting: Gray

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C of C chapter.

Fall is known for the warm colors that come with it. As summer fades into fall, out go the hot pink nail polishes and bright yellow dresses and in come the burnt oranges, mulberries, burgundies, and evergreens. You can match your scarves with the leaves on the trees and everything around you seems to take on a darker, more romantic color. However, this fall, instead of wearing the typical autumnal hues that we tend to gravitate towards once October first comes around, try something new for fall: gray. For too long gray has been associated with moody teenagers and joyless days. It is time for us to give gray the spotlight it deserves this fall.  Its versatility and effortless chicness, along with its darker hue, make it the perfect color for fall and, with so many ways to wear it, and so many different shades to choose from (50 to be exact), you can easily incorporate it into your wardrobe. This fall, try these 5 ways to wear gray.

1.     We all love darker colored nails in the fall, but sometimes plain black can feel too Halloween. Instead, opt for a shimmery gray to give you the dark, chic nails you love, without making you feel like an angsty teenager.

2.     When the colder months come around, it can be hard to motivate yourself to look nice when all you want to put on are jeans and a sweatshirt. Switch things up by slipping on these sleek gray jeans. The same level of warmth or comfort you look for in the fall, with a twist that makes them slightly more interesting.

3.     Spice any outfit up by adding some of this season’s trending accessories such as furry vests, velvety hats or pendant necklaces, and make them even chicer by making them gray.

4.     In the spring and summer your go-to laid back outfit might have been the white tee shirt and shorts. Step up this classic look and make it more seasonally appropriate by making the sleeves longer and the color darker.

5.     Dresses can be a great and lazy way to look cute on days when you don’t feel like trying, but it can be hard to not look too overdone when you’re just going to class. A heathered gray color can make the dress look more casual and appropriate for everyday use, while still not looking like you just rolled out of bed.
