Meet VanVliet!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Butler chapter.

Rebecca VanVliet, also known as fish fillet (I mispronounced her last name for ¾ of the time I knew her) , is a 21-year-old Junior marketing major from Dublin, Ohio. Dublin  is 20 minutes outside of Columbus, and home to the largest three-day Irish festival in the world, a field of giant concrete corn, and Rebecca’s adorbale pet bird!

Her Campus (HC): What are you involved in on campus?

Rebecca VanVliet (RV): HER CAMPUS! I’m the marketing and social media director. Shameless plug – are you following Her Campus’ social media accounts? You should. Facebook, Twitter, and Insta: @hercampusbutler

I’m also involved in Butler Best Buddies, and work at Internship and Career Services.

HC: If you could pick one album to listen to on repeat for the rest of the year, what album would it be?

RV:Harry Styles’ debut solo album owns my soul. You know those albums that you don’t have to skip a single song and you’re always in the mood for it? That’s one of those albums. I also definitely had a One Direction phase (that I haven’t really even grown out of) – I was a die-hard Niall girl, but I can’t even deny the wonder that is solo Harry Styles.

Nothing can or will reach my level of joy in summer 2013.

HC: What is one thing you want to do before you die?

RV: Oh my god, I don’t know? I’m in the point of my life that a question like this might make me spontaneously burst into tears. You know, existential crises and all. Great, now I’m crying. What am I going to do before I die??

Editor Note: Jazmine apologized for prompting the existential crisis.

HC: What’s one quirk you have that not a lot of people know about?

RV: I watch, like, a lot of Vine compilations. I didn’t really watch all that many Vines before it died (RIP), but now I’ll literally watch 25+ minute videos on YouTube. It’s kind of concerning the total number of hours I’ve lost of my life to them. This isn’t entirely surprising to anyone who’s even talked to me, because I usually reference Vines in everyday conversations. But it’s definitely quirky.

HC: What is a secret (or not secret) pet peeve of yours?

RV: One that seems very timely for the season: no Christmas or holiday music before Thanksgiving. Please, at least wait until after Halloween. Then I’ll jingle bells with the best of them.
