Last semester on my two month anniversary of being vegan I wrote an article called “Just Vegan Things” and now half a year later I feel like it is time to write a sequel. So here are five things that I think the vast majority of vegans will relate too.
1. Missing your friends more than you miss cheese
People keep asking me how I live without eggs and dairy, and to be honest, cutting out eggs and dairy wasn’t even hard, what is hard is no longer being invited places. I don’t miss cheese, I miss y’all, damn it.
2. Putting frozen bananas in a blender and calling it ice cream
It is creamy and it is cold. Therefore, it is ice cream.
3. Being asked questions, then being ridiculed as soon as you answer them.
Every couple of weeks somebody will ask me why I went vegan. And every time I say something along the lines of, “I realized that my taste buds weren’t more important than animal lives, and that eating meat/dairy is essentially unnecessary and wasteful.” And every fricking time they blow up at me, “ STOP SHOVING YOUR OPINIONS DOWN MY THROAT.”
4. Putting nooch on everything
Nooch is the new salt and pepper. I sprinkle it on everything. If I feel like there is a flavor missing in a recipe, I add some nooch just in case.
5. You have your list of viable proteins on deck
When people ask me where I get my protein I am now ready with a list of 600+ things sorted and memorized in alphabetical order.
