The Phases you Experience while Walking Home from Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Buffalo chapter.

Only college students who aren’t lucky enough to have a car on campus know what it’s like to walk all the way back to your dorm/apartment after a long day of class. You have to exert all of that excess energy you sadly do not have from hours of lectures and studying, to put one foot in front of the other and make that embarrassing race back to your bed for a much needed nap. College is already, in my opinion, more or less an unhealthy lifestyle for growing young adults, and one exhausting task is the endless number of hours you’ve racked up from just walking around campus. Here’s some of the phases you experience on that trip home from class:

  1. Missing the bus and accepting the fact that the next one won’t come for another 25 minutes
  2. Psyching yourself up to get ready for the long walk ahead
  3. Quickly deciding which route is the shortest way possible
  4. Or deciding to take the longer route in hopes of not running into your crush who has recitation in the classroom you pass on your way home
  5. Thinking, “You’re halfway there, which took 15 mins, so when I pass the third stoplight I’ll be 5 minutes away, which is about 20 more steps…” and calculating the rest of the agonizing journey
  6. Being so close, yet so far, and watching the bus pass by while you swear at it under your breath
  7. Seeing the doors to your house/dorm building, thanking god no one saw you in your greasy bun and hot sauce stained sweatpants on your sneaky adventure home
  8. Finally unlocking your door, ready to step into your warm and cozy room when that cute guy from a few doors down walks by and you swear you’ll never go to class looking like shit ever again. Yet the same thing happens at least Every. Other. Wednesday. :)

My advice, make friends with classmates who have cars.
