Some of you may or may not know but recently this past week the city of Buffalo had a snowstorm in its mist. Some of you might think that this storm wasn’t soo bad. In reality it was a lot worse than you might have thought, especially for the Buffalo area. I’m sure many of you know that we had 3days of classes cancelled but did you know of all of the chaos that this snow storm has caused? Many students including myself didn’t know of all of the negatives consequences that were raised due to this weather.

In the past three days about seven feet of snow has been dropped onto Buffalo, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo declared a state of emergency, and the weather has contributed to at least 12 deaths. Due to all the snow there were many homeowners that were concerned about their roofs buckling because of all the weight, which according to NBC, was “the equivalent weight of two or three pickup trucks”. NY Times has stated that “at least 30 roofs have collapsed”.

Although the snow storm has passed and highways are reopening, there is still more to come. According to weather reports the temperature will heighten allowing for the snow to rapidly melt which can cause flooding to occur. Since there was such large amounts of snow that fell the thought is, that there will be a large scale flood in many areas of Buffalo. Be mindful that although us, as students didn’t quite feel the effects of such a great snowstorm it did hit the city of Buffalo quite hard and this holiday what would be a greater gift than to help out the community that we study at. So check out some volunteer opportunities this winter and I hope that everyone has a very safe, warm and giving holiday this year.
