It’s October, which means we are almost halfway done with the semester! Although this is an exciting time for those already planning out their Winter Break, it’s mainly a sad occasion due to that one, cringe-worthy word: Midterms. *cue lightning strike*. Not to worry. There are some places on campus that will make this time in your life a little easier for you. Whether you need help with your papers or out of food (which is crucial for late-night studying or brain power for tests), here are some useful places on campus that you need to know about!
1. Computing Help Desk and Circulation Desk
Both of these places are located in the library and are very helpful for those struggling with midterms! The Computing Help Desk offers technical assistance to students! This is extremely beneficial for students whose laptops start acting up once they have a ten page paper due.
You can also rent out equipment, from tablets to MacBooks! All you need to do is reserve it here. If you need something the day of, then you can reserve it for two hours and renew it for another two if needed! You just can’t leave the library with it, sadly.
The Circulation Desk will come in handy for those who don’t have their books yet. Some professors understand the struggle of a broke college student and have put required books on reserve. If you have your Buffalo State I.D., then you can rent these books out for FREE.The only catch is it’s only for two hours at a time and you can’t leave the library with them.
2. Writing Help Center
This place is one of the best things Buffalo State can provide you. The Writing Help Center assists students with writing. I know, it doesn’t sound like the best thing ever but when you are struggling because you don’t know the first thing about writing a paper longer than three pages, then you will understand.
This service helps students through all steps of the writing process, from brainstorming to editing your final draft. They can also answer any writing questions you have. It is also located in the library, on the first floor near Argo Tea.
3. Academic Skill Center
If you who are having a hard time understanding a certain subject and feel you are doomed come midterms, then this place will be your best friend. The Academic Skill Center offers free tutoring to students in almost every subject. All you have to do is go in and sign up! They also offer workshops on computer skills, studying skills, research, and citing works.
So if you still think studying means reading six weeks worth of notes the night before the exam, then you should really check this place out. The Academic Skill Center is located in South Wing, Room 100.
4. On-Campus Food Pantry
With the middle of the semester approaching, there are many students who have already used up their meal plans. They may not have the funds to buy food, especially those who have bought those expensive books! If this applies to you, then it’s okay. Buffalo State offers non-perishable food to students in need for free through on-campus food pantries.
So if you are in need of food, please contact anyone on this list. If you do not feel comfortable with that, then you can head over to the Wiegel Health Center and someone will be able to assist you.
