Black Friday Sale Crazy? How to Recover Your Finances

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Buff State chapter.

As the clock struck 12 am this past Friday, hundreds of stores opened its doors for doorbuster deals. I must say this is the earliest I’ve ever seen these deals happen! From Macy’s to Target and every department store or electronics hub inbetween items came flying off shelves, people stood in lines that rounded the entire store and spent collectively $11.4 billion at retail stores and malls, up nearly $1 billion from last year. Now that the dust has settled, and the one day sale that extended to the entire weekend after thanksgiving is over, do you find yourself a little light in the pockets?

Collegiettes, finals week is just around the corner for us, and if you don’t have some bengal bucks or a few declining dining dollars left on your ID card you may be in trouble. To recover from the weekend’s shopping adventure will take some tenacity. You can no longer spend your own money when it comes to food. So put away the check card and do not for any reason draw out money unless it is a life or death situation. Find friends who do have declining dollars left as they will be more than happy to help you out in your time of need. If you do have bengal bucks or declining dollars left, buy only what can be bought with these funds. Remember you have to use that money up or else you’ll lose it at the end of the semester, hence the reason why anyone with a large amount of money on their card needs to spend that money within the next two weeks.

Do not be fooled by online sales. Cyber Monday or Cyber week as it is being called this year seems like a good deal or an extension however most of these are just left over items from Black Friday sales and are not really being sold at a deal. Plus if the site is not offering free shipping, which many are not including Best Buy and Walmart, its not worth the trouble of added expenses.

Take advantage of the school’s free events such as the pancake breakfast which will be held on Monday, December 12th at midnight and various organization that may hold potluck dinners. We will be giving you more info on these events as they come closer to happening.
