HC Buff State: Who is your biggest inspiration?

Austin: “My friends and family and whoever supports me. Also, my high school coach who is like a father to me.”

HC Buff State: What things have you done or organizations are you a part of on campus and what have you learned from them?

Austin: “I apart of Bengals Supporting Bengals. That’s not really an organization but a bunch of us go to games and support other teams. I run for cross-country, Indoor and Outdoor track. I placed 12th both years at Nationals out of  the entire country for the Distance Medley Relay and 800. I won the SUNYAC 800 Title for indoor and outdoor and the 4×4 SUNYAC title for indoor. And I hold the school record for the 4x800m Relay and DMR indoor. All of these things have taught me a lot about leadership. And it’s not like a job, more like a privilege to run for Buff State.”

HC Buff State: Why did you come to buff state?

Austin: “I didn’t apply to any other schools. I applied to this one late and got in because of the head track coach from two years ago. If it wasn’t for him, I would not be attending any college.”

HC Buff State: What were your best and worst experiences while attending buff state?

Austin: “Having a broken foot my freshmen year. Definitely the worst. Took me out of running. Want to know the specific place? The 2nd metatarsal on my second toe. My best experience is probably getting to know a lot of people on campus, the privilege to be on the team, and travel to places I’ve never been to – like California and Nebraska.”

HC Buff State: How would you describe your experience here at buff state?

Austin: “For the most part, I think it’s going well. I wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much if I wasn’t on a sports team though.”

HC Buff State: What do you hope to do when you graduate?

Austin: “Get a job and support my mom and grandma.”

HC Buff State: What is your biggest motivation to continue on as a student here at buff state?

Austin: “Running”

HC Buff State: What advice can you give to females who go to buff state?

Austin: “For females, or anybody, if you have done a sport in high school, try out in college. It’ll make college easier and you’ll start off with friends who become your family. Also, have self confidence and respect yourself.”
