From Bertrand Library to dorm common rooms, there are tons of places on campus where you can get your work done. Although these spots often have sturdy desks and many electrical outlets making them extremely convenient to write a paper, there is always one problem…other students! So if you are sick and tired of distracting Bucknellians keeping you from getting your readings done, check out these best kept secret study spots on campus!
Academic Buildings
First and foremost, academic buildings across Bucknell have so many different places that students can study in; here are a few of my favorites…
O’Leary lounges & graduate classrooms
If you are looking for a comfy and super quiet space, the O’Leary Center is the perfect spot. Besides having several lounges and classrooms to work in, there is also a kitchen on the second floor with a coffee maker and microwave. The graduate classrooms are amazing but you’ll have to befriend a professor to be granted the code to access it. Also, there is hardly anyone in the geology classrooms when classes aren’t in session, so when available, they are another great option!
Willard Smith Library
Also known as the Harry Potter Library, this study spot is located in the Vaughn Literature building. It is a beautiful room filled with several book cases and long tables that are perfect for spreading out your notes while studying. Another plus: the wooden chairs aren’t overly comfy, so you won’t fall asleep while studying.
Rooke Chemistry Building Classrooms
Throughout the Rooke Chemistry Building there are several classrooms on the second and third floor. All have white boards and are typically open on the weekends, making them the perfect option for group studying! Also, the greenhouse on the top floor is a beautiful spot, but be careful of the sprinklers going off while you are doing your homework!
The Observatory
Although this building is rarely open, it is another more secluded place to study on campus! It is located just past McDonnell Hall and Chi Phi Fraternity house.
Dorm Buildings
Besides the common rooms located in the dorms throughout campus there are other spots where you can get your work done!
Larison Computer Lab
McDonnell Hall Ski Lounge
When you walk inside this room you will feel like you should be dressed in an adorable ski bunny outfit, sipping hot chocolate before you go out and hit the slopes. The Ski Lounge is located on the second floor of McDonnell Hall and has several tables and chairs, giving you another option over the hall common rooms.
Hunt Basement and Hunt Classroom
You do not have to be a sorority girl to use these quiet study spots! On the first floor of Hunt Hall is a classroom with a projector, computer, and several tables, making it a perfect location for group work. In the basement there are several piles of chairs and tables that you can use most nights when there aren’t sorority chapter meetings.
Roser Hall Computer Lab
This is one of the best kept secret study spots on campus! Seniors living in the gateways know that this computer lab is a perfect place to print out papers and get some reading done without fear of noisy students!
Get a Little Outdoorsy
Before the weather gets too cold take your homework outside!
Stone benches between Smith and Vedder
The quad between Smith and Vedder Hall is the perfect spot for doing work. You can easily finish up readings before class while catching some rays on the oversized benches!
The Grove
If it’s a beautiful day, why not grab a blanket and do some of your readings in The Grove? The massive trees provide some shade from the sun and you can enjoy some quiet time outside without fear of a Frisbee hitting you, like you would on the quad benches!
Hufnagle Park
If you desperately need a break from campus, think about taking a walk down Sixth Street to Hufnagle Park. The gazebo is a secluded spot that is the perfect option for seniors living downtown who do not want to walk all the way uphill to the library to get some work done.
Other
The Niche
This spot is extremely secluded, especially seeing how I didn’t know it existed until the end of last semester! It is located behind 7th street café and is connected to the Craft Center. The Niche is another quiet study spot that is a well-kept secret amongst those who use it.
Bookstore
If you really want a change of pace, head down Market Street and do your work in the Barnes and Noble bookstore. It is rarely used by students after they have picked up their textbooks, but there are several places throughout the building that offer table space to get some work done!
