Meet: Trey Johnson

As a scholarship athlete, member of the Bucknell Football Team and the Black Student Union on campus, Trey Johnson already has a lot on his plate. But his busy schedule hasn’t stopped him from designing a new dormroom staple, The Flip ‘N Flate, which is expected to launch this September. Luckily, Her Campus Bucknell has all the information on the new dorm rug-turned-airbed:

Tell us a little bit about the history of Flip ‘N Flate. What inspired its design?

The rug airbed design was inspired by a girl on my freshmen hall. After a night of partying, she struggled to sleep on her lofted dorm bed. It was safer for the intoxicated hallmate to spend the night on her rug. I had an “Aha” moment, “What if the rug could become a bed?!!”

How does Flip ‘N Flate work?

Simply flip the rug over and inflate the air mattress attached to the back of the rug.

What’s your favorite feature of Flip ‘N Flate?

My favorite feature is the Velcro patches placed on the rug and the air mattress. This feature allows the rug component to be attached or detached from the air mattress component.

How do you expect Flip ‘N Flate to change Bucknell’s dorm scene this fall?

This fall, I’m hoping Flip ‘N Flate can really gain maximum interest from all Bucknellians on campus; especially the incoming freshmen who will experience dorm life for the first time and will come across situations where the Flip ‘N Flate could be very useful. (ex: Hosting visitors/athletic recruits, “sexiled” situations, etc.)

Why should Bucknellians make the switch from blow-up mattress to the Flip ‘N Flate?

Conventional air mattresses are big, bulky, and are hard to store. The typical college student does not have space to efficiently store a “blow- up” mattress in their dorm, especially when they have a roommate fighting for space as well. The Flip ‘N Flate is large enough to be an efficient area rug, but small enough to fit perfectly in a dorm room.
