How to Beat the Sunday Scaries

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

It is a universally accepted fact that Sundays suck. By the time you get to Sunday, the allure of the weekend has worn off, the music has died down, and any residual fun gets wiped away by the realization that Monday is less than 24 hours away. Everyone on campus spends the day either a) doing all of the homework they still haven’t done, or b) lying in bed thinking about all the homework they still haven’t done.

But never fear: Her Campus is here to help with multiple ways to conquer that weekly case of the Sunday scaries. And with finals looming, these tricks will definitely come in handy in the not-so-distant future. So sit back, relax, and read on.

1. Make a to-do list

Instead of diving headfirst into that monstrous-looking mountain of work on your desk, start off by making a list. Break up the tasks into individual items, preferably in order of importance. Forming a game plan beforehand will give you a much clearer sense of what your day is actually going to look like and it will leave you feeling less anxious if you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into. Plus, nothing can beat the ridiculously accomplished feeling you get as soon as you tick off that first box on your list. 2. Brunch

Sunday brunch is a thing for a reason; you can’t expect to get any work done on an empty stomach. Turn an otherwise grim-looking Sunday morning into an opportunity to grab a great meal with friends. A brunch date can also be an excuse to get off campus and try someplace new, something you most likely don’t have time for during the week. Pancakes, avo toast, and caffeinated beverages are pretty much guaranteed to put you in a productive Sunday mood. 3. Pamper yourself

If the weekend left you feeling grimy and gross, take some time to take care of yourself. Carve a slot into your day for a manicure, a facemask, a yoga class – whatever makes you feel good. Also, use Sunday as the day to get in contact with the people who make you happy. Call your mom, FaceTime your best friend from home. Little things like this can turn your whole day around. 4. Get off campus

Sometimes, the only way to clear your worries is to physically detach yourself from the source of the distress. So rally up a few friends, get in the car and go for a drive. Crank up the tunes and take in the world around you. Spend the afternoon at a scenic spot, maybe Bushkill Falls, which is just a two-hour drive from Bucknell. You’ll leave with a clear mind, amazing memories, and a killer Insta post.

5. Remind yourself that everything is going to be okay

And if not, Friday will be here before you know it.

What's up Collegiettes! I am so excited to be one half of the Campus Correspondent team for Bucknell's chapter of Her Campus along with the lovely Julia Shapiro.  I am currently a senior at Bucknell studying Creative Writing and Sociology.
