The Fall 10: What’s In and What’s Out This Season at Bucknell

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

The fading fall foliage isn’t bluffing: a definite shift has blown across campus, and it isn’t just the weather. As we inch towards the chillier half of the semester, we’ve begun to notice that some major new editions to our campus – Bada Basil, The Downtown Ordinance, and new accessory trends – have bloomed into buzzed-about topics on campus and seem to have taken the place of past fall favorites. Luckily for the most up-to-date collegiettes, we’ve been keeping tabs on the latest trends across campus. Her Campus Bucknell’s ultimate guide to what’s in and what’s out this fall season covers everything from food trends to hottest style trends to restroom trends at the Buck:

1.

Out: The Quinoa BarIn: The Chobani Creations BarThe new Chobani Bar option at 7th Street has been a major plus for those collegiettes who are all over the make-it-your-own trend. It’s been a convenient and nutritious addition to our food options on campus: Now we have the freedom to roll out of bed, grab a spoonful (or two) of yogurt, and head off to class. Not to mention that Chobani yogurt has nearly twice the amount of protein than quinoa, making it a better brain-boosting option.

2. Out: Pumpkin Spice Oreos, Pringles, and…Hummus? In: Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream, Lattes, and YogurtThe average Bucknellian knows that ’tis the season for pumpkin spice everything. Her Campus Bucknell agrees that consumer marketing has taken the craze a little too far – so this fall, stick to the spicy basics, like Purple Cow’s delicious pumpkin ice cream and Chobani’s new pumpkin flavored yogurt.

3. Out: Breakfast at the Bison and Café StreamIn: Breakfast at Street of ShoppesThe recent closing of Café Stream and the limited breakfast options in the LC have wreaked havoc among collegiettes since the beginning of the semester. But the closures of our favorite breakfast joints have opened up new opportunities for exploring surrounding Lewisburg, such as Street of Shops.

4.

Out: Gluten-free Everything (Unless you’re Celiac, of course)In: The Paleo “Diet”Ask anyone about the “gluten-free” trend and most of the time you’ll find that nobody actually knows what the term really means. The gluten-free craze is fading fast and is instead being replaced by something called the Paleo Diet. This new foodie trend turns to whole, organic, unprocessed foods in an attempt to prevent heart disease, diabetes, and obesity levels. Think: if a caveman didn’t eat it, neither should you.

5.

Out: Huffing and puffing on the treadmillIn: Huffing and puffing up the hill to the libraryWith technology’s growing influence in the health and fitness fields, this season is the perfect time to accessorize with a fitness tracker. Fitbits, UpBands, and now the MyFitness Pal App are all great ways to monitor your physical activity without stepping foot into the gym. So, instead of putting some serious energy into hours spent sprinting on the treadmill, track your cardio, sleep, and nutritional levels with one of these nifty gadgets.

6.

Out: Frat house bathroomsIn: Port-o-PottiesFinally, we can pee in private! says every party-attending collegiette on campus. Gone are the days where we have to dodge a stray toilet paper roll and barricade a broken door en route to the ladies’ room. Now, you don’t have to worry (as long as you have a bathroom buddy guard the door to ensure that no one pulls any mean potty-tipping pranks).

7.

Out: Solo CupsIn: BYODC (Bring Your Own Dunkin’ Cup)The shift in seasons has also brought about a shift in mobile dishware. Plastic Dunkin’ cups seem to be every collegiette’s favorite accessory when it comes to hanging out in downtown Lewisburg backyards. Bringing your own Dunkin cups prevents us from having to scrounge around hay-covered backyards for flimsy Solo Cups.

8.

Out: The Snood (Scarf-Hood)In: Sweater Headbands  Our new favorite fall accessory is the knit headband. With the chillier months swiftly approaching, it’s time we keep our ears warm with this boho-chic addition to our wardrobes.

9.

Out: PinterestIn: Keep.comHow many times have you seen a pair of shoes on Pinterest that you have to have, but, after clicking on the link, are directed to an entirely wrong website or blog? In a Pinterest-type layout, Keep.com combines product images and shopping into one cool site. Buyers have the option to “Like,” “Keep,” or “Share” their products, whose prices are conveniently placed at the bottom of the image.

10.

Out: iTunesIn: Spotify and 8tracksListening to unlimited albums, songs, and playlists was nearly impossible until streaming sites like Spotify and 8tracks entered the music market. Now, with other subscription-based, unlimited streaming websites, it seems as though iTunes is only a distant memory (When was the last time you payed $1.29 for a song?).
