Easy Tips to Revamp Your Dorm Room

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

We ladies of HC Bucknell love to change things up every now and again, so we thought why not start with your dorm room? This never-ending winter has caused most of campus to be cooped up inside, all. the. time. If you are like me and need something fresh and new in your space, try these easy tips to revamp your doom room.

Rearrange Furniture

If you are really feeling like you need a change, the most obvious way is to move everything in your dorm room. Try lofting your bed or changing the direction or order of your desk and dresser. It may take a lot of heavy lifting (and a willing friend to help!), but this rearrangement will instantly make you feel like you have a new room!

Organize, Organize, Organize

Sometimes all it takes to give your room a facelift is putting away all those piles of clothes. This colder weather seems to make all of us a little bit lazier, so set aside sometime to clean your room. You may realize that you need more storage bins under your bed or glass jars on your desk. Organizing will allow you to better see your room and to keep it functional and clean!

Add some Green

Considering buying a small potted plant or a bouquet of flowers to keep in your room. They will add a nice pop of color and instantly make you happier! Plus, since the national holiday for chocolate and flowers just passed, there are major sales on Valentines Day flowers! So head out and get yourself a small bouquet of flowers; you deserve it!

Picture This

My first year at Bucknell I taped dozens of pictures all over my wall, but quickly realized when I was taking them down how much of a pain it was. If you want to upgrade your room invest in a couple nice pictures frames. Picture frames are a chic alternative to covering your walls and will definitely add a pop of color to your room. If you want to save a few bucks, grab a couple frames from the dollar store and decorate them according to your personal style. They will look great without costing you! Also, considering updating your photos! Head down to CVS and print out your favorites from last semester to add to your photo collection.

Touch of Home

This is my all-time favorite dorm room trick. Nothing makes your space feel more like home than a curtain decorating your window. Now before you say no, curtains are surprisingly easy to install and cause absolutely no damage to your room. All you need are two command hooks, a tension rod and a set of decorative curtains. Curtains are an easy way to add a pop of color and bring a feeling of home to your room!

Find your Scent

Our sense of smell is incredibly powerful, which can cause us to recollect old memories or creating a calming effect. Since we are not allowed to have candles in our room due to fire hazards, incense and potpourri can go a long way. Find your favorite scent, be it calming lavender or warm apple cinnamon, and put it on your desk. This tiny addition will make a huge difference and instantly make you feel at home when you walk in the door after a long day.

Colorful Throws

Since the frigid weather this winter is clearly never ending, consider adding something that is multifunctional! A simple throw blanket will add extra warmth and color to your room. Try finding a blanket color matching your comforter. This will tie the throw it into your room décor and give you a little extra something to snuggle up with when it’s too cold outside to get out of bed.

The weather outside is frightful, but inside we can make our rooms delightful. Try out one, a combination, or all of these easy tips to update your dorm room. I promise the winter weather is slowly coming to an end, but in the mean time revive your space to give your sanctuary a little sprucing up!
