The early days of spring are defined by cool mornings and warm afternoons, which makes picking out an outfit a nightmare, rarely dressed like a daydream. Tossed aside in frustration, clothes begin to pile up, as the inconsistent weather of spring seems to spark an incurable case of indecisiveness. How do I dress for both a winter and a summer day? Do I dress for to the weather now and possibly overheat later or dress for later and freeze now? These questions, which are a part of every girl’s morning inner monologue, are more important than the questions your professors will throw at you because they dictate your comfort for the rest of the day. Hopefully after reading this article, your morning routine will be a little less chaotic and a little more creative.

Scarves are generally the easiest way to layer in the spring, as they add additional color, pattern, and texture. They keep you warm during the cool spring mornings and add a splash of color to your outfit. Their best feature is that they are not tethered to your body; you can wear it to your 8 a.m. when the sun has not had sufficient time to warm the air and take it off when you are leaving your 1 o’clock when it feels like a sunny summer day. Scarves, quite simply, are the greatest layering tools.

Blue jean jackets are some of the most versatile pieces of clothing. Passively dangling from a hanger in your closet, you might not see the power that they hold. However, denim jackets are a neutral staple for your wardrobe no matter their hue. Bleached nearly white or traditionally blue, they are an essential element in every girl’s wardrobe. They can be worn with almost everything and are perfect for the transition into spring – the days in which the shade makes it feel like a cool winter night but the sun spreads the warmth of a hot summer day. They will keep you warm without the burden of your winter parka, while simultaneously lending a trendy vibe to your outfit.

As winter pulls away, girls find themselves readily welcoming spring but pausing to remember that with warmer weather, comes bare legs; and with bare legs, comes shaving. Our legs are no longer hidden behind skinny jeans or baggy sweatpants; they are completely exposed. The springtime warmth provides the perfect opportunity to blend the heavier clothing of winter with the more delicate, leg-exposing apparel of spring. More specifically, throwing a warm, knitted sweater over a lightweight dress caters to the fluctuating temperatures.

Cropped jeans provide a seemingly endless array of springtime outfits. With a perfect cuff at the ankles and a bright pair of ballet flats, this outfit exudes the warmth of spring. Wearing a sweater over a button-down shirt is a hip way to add an extra layer, and if you’re looking to dress up this already chic outfit, throw on a statement necklace to add a little sparkle or color. If you’re feeling bold, rock the denim-on-denim look; just be sure that your denims are different colors!
