3 Tips to Help You Treat Yo’self This Holiday Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

While the holiday season is synonymous with the spirit of giving, we sometimes forget to take care of ourselves during this time of endless generosity. The money, time, and love that we spend on others can often lead to exhaustion and the neglect of both mind and body. To prevent yourself from becoming drained during this busy month, follow these three tips to help you treat yo’self.

Light some candles and unwind with a relaxing, holiday-themed bubble bath.

These fresh, handmade bath accessories from Lush Cosmetics will have you feeling less stressed in no time. With the multi-colored Santa Fun bar, you can build your own rendition of Saint Nick before using him as a bubble bath, soap, or shampoo. Use the Luxury Lush Pud bath bomb to be engulfed in swirling colors and a cloud of lavender oil. Finally, dip the cinnamon-themed Magic of Christmas bubble bar into your bathwater to create some almond-scented bubbles that will relieve any tensions and worries. Don’t worry, this first tip won’t break the bank – all of the bars cost less than $10, so you’ll have more than enough to get your mom that purse she’s been eyeing.

De-stress by sweating out some toxins during a group fitness class at the KLARC.

The combination of below-freezing temperatures with the huge, delicious meals that occur during the months of November and December can make it easy to put on a few excess winter pounds. This holiday season, take care of your body by attending a group fitness class taught by a fellow student at the KLARC. Since the classes are free for Bucknell students and open to all levels of experience and physical activity, there’s no excuse to not take advantage of this healthy opportunity. With unique choices such as Zumba, spinning, vinyasa yoga, and barre, you’re sure to find something that piques your interest. End your fitness session with a meditation class that will calm your mind and soothe your body.

Give a whole new meaning to “Netflix and chill” by getting cozy in bed with a ton of pillows, blankets, and hot chocolate.

It can be easy to let the cold get the best of you, but prepare yourself for winter by stocking up on warm drinks and cranking the thermostat. Save a few minutes for yourself each week to snuggle under the covers and catch up on Once Upon a Time. Don’t forget cinnamon, whipped cream, and marshmallows on your hot chocolate to get the most out of your Netflix experience. While it may seem like a good idea to chug some coffee and stay up for 48 hours studying for finals, you won’t perform well on your exams if you’re fatigued. Who knew Netflix and chill could help you do better on tests?

It feels wonderful to buy gifts for others and spend time with friends and family, but it’s important to stay in tune with your body and its needs. Hopefully these self-care tips will help you get through the mental fog that can sometimes develop during the hectic winter months.
