Holiday of Love

By Alexa Giovanello
February 14, 2012 - 2:43pm

With Valentine's Day here, most of us are either hate walking into a Hallmark store or get giddy at the sight of hearts and roses. This is the first Valentine's Day in six years that I've been single, but I'm certainly not joining the, "I hate Valentine's Day" side. Maybe I'll always be a romantic, but I think it's important not to shrug off this holiday even if you're single. Enough with pessimist attitudes and grumpiness because we'll all find love sooner or later.

For those who are in a relationship...I think it's a good idea to think outside of the box, and purchase more personalized gifts for your boyfriend or girlfriend. Here are two of my favorite gift ideas for this year: READ MORE

New Type of Valentine's Day

By Elyssa Sternberg
February 14, 2012 - 2:26pm

I strongly dislike Valentine’s Day (I’ve been told “hate” is a strong word). However, this has nothing to do with my current single status. I strongly dislike Valentine’s Day because I feel it is unnecessary. If you really love your valentine, you should tell them everyday, not save it up for a single day out of the year. Maybe I just listen to too much RENT, so the mantra “No day but today” is permanently engrained in my brain. READ MORE

Stand Up For Ellen

By Carlee Wieser
February 12, 2012 - 12:00am

Most of us, at one point or another, have heard the name Ellen DeGeneres.  Maybe you have seen her on her Emmy-winning talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show, or maybe you have seen pictures of her at movie premieres locked arm and arm with her wife Portia De Rossi.  For those who may have never seen her before, maybe you recognize her voice as Dory in Finding Nemo.  Whether you know about Ellen DeGeneres or not, all of you should be aware of the controversy surrounding her and the JCPenney company.

My Secret Obsession: Cheesy Bread

By Lexi Salazar
February 11, 2012 - 3:19pm

I still remember my first time.  It was late in the evening, I was sitting on one extra-long twin bed in a Warren single, staring out the window into the starless sky.  It was pretty late; it must have been past midnight, but not yet past 3 a.m.

“You have to try this,” my friend said, handing me the open box of Domino’s Cheesy Bread she had just ordered.

I held the warm, greasy box in my hands and stared down into it.  Inside, the loaf of cheesy bread shined up at me.  The scent of cheese, bread, gooey goodness, and instant regret wafted up into my nostrils.  How could I resist?

By Hannah Weintraub
February 10, 2012 - 9:00am

In a college girl’s wardrobe, reusing what you have is the only way to stay on a budget. It would be impossible to get by those busy weeks without throwing on your favorite jeans once or twice (or maybe three times) and studying would be way to hard if you had to worry about an uncomfortable outfit and your schoolwork. There is an easy solution to this problem. Who says you can’t wear your favorite jeans or sweaters more than once? Although it may not feel like winter outside, sweaters are still a must for layering, cold classrooms, and for those windy days. Now, you can be your own stylist, and with this guide, you can learn how to wear the most necessary item this winter in 3 different ways.

Your Guide for the Republican Primaries, Part 2

By Ramona Ostrowski

Round two, here we go! Remember, if you’re registered to vote in Massachusetts as either a Republican or unenrolled (Independent), you may vote in the Republican Primary on March 6th.

Education:
-- Ron Paul voted against the No Child Left Behind act because he is generally opposed to federal involvement in education. He has said he would like to abolish the Department of Education.
-- Rick Santorum also believes the federal government should have a very small role in education, and says he regrets voting for No Child Left Behind.
-- Newt Gingrich is in favor of shrinking the Department of Education, but not abolishing it completely. He supports aspects of No Child Left Behind....

Calm Down, Dearie

By Ramona Ostrowski
February 7, 2012 - 11:29pm

I’m sitting in the GSU right now, and I just got up to get some water. The main water machine is broken, so I filled a cup with ice and then hot water. As I was doing so, a male employee came up to me and said “What do you need, dearie?” “Just water,” I said, clearly doing just fine getting it on my own. “Okay, dearie,” he replied. Okay. So. First of all, why the need to approach me at all? Maybe just a desire to be helpful, true, maybe I looked lost...but I don’t think I did. Secondly, and more infuriatingly, why the term of endearment? He doesn’t know me--there was absolutely no basis for any sort of relationship, or even interaction, between us. So why the need to address me that way? READ MORE

Why Every Collegiette NEEDS to See Miss Representation

By Ryan Robinson
February 7, 2012 - 7:13pm

I shave my legs, wear a bra and tight clothes; I watch romantic comedies, I usually wait for the boy to text me first and expect him to pay for dinner on a date. I don't hate men or demand that we change "mankind" to "womankind," but I still consider myself a feminist.
