Food Truck Fridays: Food Truck Adventures Across BU’s Campus.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Food truck adventures across BU’s campus.

Food trucks have recently gained enormous rise in popularity. While mobile catering is no modern phenomenon, food trucks across the country are putting a spin on mobile food staples. Gourmet food trucks first became popular in New York City and Los Angles, but have continued to move to other parts of the country including Boston, where local entrepreneurs and chefs have taken the initiative to get creative with their food. A variety of cuisines are represented in the food trucks in the Boston area. Often each food truck specializes in a few unique dishes to deliver the best product to their customers. Food truck cuisine is quick and inexpensive, perfect for any college student, and is great for on-the-go eating.

I first became fascinated with food trucks after watching The Great Food Truck Race on The Food Network. When I moved to campus last fall as a freshman, and saw food trucks like Roxy’s Grilled Cheese parked on campus, I was super excited to be able to eat from some of the food trucks I had heard so much about. Hopefully this weekly Food Truck Fridays blog will help guide you to some of the best dishes served up on the food trucks across campus.

To begin my food truck-eating journey, I first wanted to introduce to you the iPhone app that will help me along my quest.

This app, called Street Food Boston, is the perfect tool to find and explore Boston’s food trucks. A map feature displays pins at the locations of the food trucks. Green pins indicate when a food truck is open and red pins indicate a food truck that is about to open. The map is updated throughout the day with the movement of the food trucks from place to place. A list feature also displays upcoming schedules with hours and locations for each of the food trucks. The app also includes links to the food truck’s home page and twitter. You can also select your favorite food trucks and add them to your ‘Favorites’ tab for easy access to your desired trucks and their schedules.

Best of all, the Street Food Boston app is free.

So get on your iPhone and download the Street Food Boston app, and join me on this food truck-eating journey!
