Fall Career Expo, Parents Weekend, Modern Family at Wilbur Theater: Events You Need to Go to This Week

Posted Oct 14 2012 - 10:47pm

How was BU Dining Services' Visiting Chef Series last Thursday? My favorite dish had to be the grilled swordfish on coconut sticky rice with mango! Be sure to check out the night's Instagrammed photos here.

For this week's HCBU event guide, I've grouped together some particularly interesting ongoing events, because, quite frankly, this guide would be ten pages long if I were to feature them all. It's an especially event-filled week, with Parents Weekend, Exploring Majors & Careers Week and the usual yet amazing career and academic workshops.

And yes, ABC Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet are coming to Boston.

So bookmark this guide, collegiettes™, and return often! As always, please let me know if I've missed an event and/or you'd like me to feature yours in the next guide.

ALL WEEK/ONGOING

Exploring Majors & Careers – From Monday to Thursday, you'll have the chance to explore options for your major, learn the value of an internship, speak with alumni about their experiences, meet with recruiters from various organizations, discover post-graduate service opportunities and much more. Learn more and register today to reserve your spot here. Each program included is designed to help BU students discover new doors, unlock opportunities, and plan for the future. This week is sponsored by BU CCD, CAS, ERC and the Alumni Association.

Fall Fringe Festival – A BU favorite running throughout the month of October through a special collaboration from the School of Theatre and School of Music Opera Institute, the Fringe Festival was founded in 1997 with the goal of cultivating a broader audience for opera. This collaborative effort between designers, directors, singers and actors was built around the desire to present an unconventional repertoire within a distinguished performance experience, according to the press release. Tickets are $7 for general admission, with one free ticket with a BU ID. Check out the festival's full schedule here.

Parents Weekend – Whether your parents are visiting or not, make sure you check out all the great events this Friday to Sunday! Some of my favorites: Italian Dinner in the Dining Halls, BU Concert Band and All-Campus Orchestra Concert, Award-Winning Illusionist Leo Etienne, “Facebook Got Me Fired” discussion, Salsa Conmigo, Scarlet Fever Hockey at Agganis Arena. Check out the schedule here.

BU Center for Career Development/Educational Resource Center Workshops – How do you prepare for an interview? What are the best note-taking methods? How do you effectively study for that midterm? Why should you care about “brain food”? Learn all this and much more at CCD/ERC workshops! Check out the full calendar here.
