Transformation Tuesday: What I Learned at BU this Year

By Sanah Faroke
May 7, 2013 - 9:00am

The 2012-2013 school year was one full of firsts for me. Although I’m a junior, I transferred to BU, leaving sunny Miami behind and everything I knew. I had no idea what to expect or who I would meet. I swore I was going to meet a Harvard man and fall in love to a baseball player while singing ‘Call Me Maybe’ by Carly Rae Jepson. I soon realized that I lived in a fantasy, in a bubble and moving away made me grow up so much. So much more than I would have ever done while living at home, spending time with people I’ve known since first grade, and never experiencing a culture that was different from one I grew up knowing. By the end of the school year, I have actually come to realize that my life is a “Transformation Tuesday” that is constantly ongoing....

5 Things We Can Learn from the Characters of Mad Men

By Hannah Herman
May 4, 2013 - 11:30am

Mad Men is more than just an entertaining TV show. It is a way of life (thank you awesome costuming department). Here are the best lessons you can take from Mad Men and apply it to your everyday, 2013, life.   1.     Beware of a clean-cut man in a form-fitting suit. Two words: Donald Draper. Luckily, Joan proves that women have a few tricks up their sleeves as well. (A well-dressed woman can do some serious damage herself.) 2.     Alcohol and oysters don’t mix. Alcoholism in general is probably a pretty good thing to avoid. No one wants to be another Roger Sterling. READ MORE

5 Ways to Productively Break from Studying (Finals Edition)

By Adrienne Todela
May 3, 2013 - 9:00am

It’s that time of year again as the school year draws to a close. We are cramming everything into a week and a half. From attending end-of-the-year parties, to studying endless notes for cumulative exams, to burying heads onto piles of books for half-finished papers, and packing for the ride home. READ MORE

10 Things to Never Say to A Senior

By Ariella Berger
May 2, 2013 - 9:00am

There have been quite a few times this year (ok let’s be honest, it’s all the time) that people will ask me questions or say something to me, that I really do not want to hear as a graduating senior. And you know that if you’re a senior too, you really don’t want to hear about the g-word and yeah, we like to be in denial about it. So here are the top ten things that you should never say to a senior.   1. So what are you doing after you graduate? Why do people feel the need to say this? If we knew what we were doing, you’d know by now. 2. I feel sooo old. No, you don’t. You’re a junior who is realizing your upperclassmen status. That does not qualify as old. READ MORE

Study Abroad: Take the Jump

By Devin McGuire
May 1, 2013 - 9:00am

As I sat in the open door of a plane 14,000 feet in the air above Australia, my mind was utterly blank. All of my fears were completely wiped from my brain before the single moment of falling into the open air.  There was no turning back. The sixty seconds of free fall ticked by, and soon the parachute deployed, leaving me with time to look out over the horizon and contemplate the beautiful coastline. On the way to the airport getting ready to jump, I was so nervous. My hands were sweating, doubts swirled through my head, and I thought of only the worst. But as it turns out, jumping out a plane ended up being one of the most exhilarating moments of my life, and honestl, I would do it again if I had the money. READ...

7 Things We Have in Boston that we Don’t Have in Los Angeles

By Quinn Rodriguez
April 30, 2013 - 6:00pm

I’m from the City of Angels, which is (I think) arguably one of the most beautiful and sunny places in the world. While I am absolutely in love with my hometown and love to go back and visit, I’ve come to terms with being in school somewhere it snows by remembering what we have in Boston that I won’t find back in my star-studded home. 1. Biddies Yes, we do have skinny girls trying who are ‘actresses’ all over town, but we don’t have the typical “BU-Biddie” anywhere. Mostly because we lack the knee-length coats and Hunter boots that characterize the BU Biddie. 2. Public transportation READ MORE

Food Findings: Rialto

April 30, 2013 - 1:02pm

As much as you may be in denial about it, for roughly one-fourth of collegiates, these are your last few days as a certified undergrad (sorry for the reminder). Of course, that means that you’ll be moving out on your own (unless you plan on moving back home) and having to cook for yourself. If you’re anything like me, you spent every second you could in the dining hall or GSU, eating food someone else cooked for you to enjoy. No more. Now you’ll have to fend for yourself. Luckily, there are some awesome restaurants in Boston that are cheap, good, and even give lessons so if you happen to need to cook for yourself one day, you’ll have the ability to. READ MORE
