Affordable Makeup Series: Long-Lasting Lip Products for the Frugal Collegeitte

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

With the holidays approaching, most of us will be attending parties galore. This means pictures, drinking, eating and the pressure to constantly look picture-ready. Looking good might be difficult when your lipstick won’t stay, making your makeup look incomplete, or even worse, causing you to run to the bathroom to reapply every half hour. Below is a list of affordable, long-lasting lip products that I swear by. All of these great lip products will keep you looking great throughout the night no matter what color you choose! Wearing these, you will be sure to stand out at all of your trendy holiday events.

1. NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams

These lip creams are just like lip gloss, but their pigment is a lot more powerful. They act like a stain, drying to a matte color that is sure to stay on all night. They also come in a variety of eye-catching shades. If you’re looking for something bold, try “Monte Carlo,” a cranberry red, or if you want something subtle, you could try a color like “Stockholm.” These lip creams are truly some of my favorites for long-lasting color, and they only cost $6.00! They can be found at Target, Ulta or online. Perfect for the collegiette budget.

2. Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain

Another long-lasting and affordable lip stain is Sephora’s cream lip stain. Similar to the NYX stain, this cream applies like a gloss and moisturizes the lips. Personally, I’d say it applies better than a lot of the high end stains that I have tried. What is great about these stains is that, unlike the NYX brand, they are offered in both matte and shimmery finishes. They come in 10 different colors, and they’re priced at $13.00 each. These can be found at Sephora stores or online.

3. L’Oreal La Laque and Le Matte Lipsticks

A few months ago, L’Oreal introduced their new limited edition La Laque and Le Matte lipsticks and the make-up world went crazy. Their lipsticks come in a long, twist-up tube, filled with a highly pigmented product that goes on with incredibly ease. The La Laque line gives a shiny finish without being shimmery, while the Le Matte line dries to a completely matte finish and generally last longer than the La Laque products. However, these products are limited edition and typically hard to find. They are sold in Target and certain drugstores and usually run for about $9.00.

4. Revlon Colorburst Matte and Lacquer Balms

Following in L’Oreal’s footsteps, Revlon has also released a line of long wearing lip balms. Like the L’Oreal balms, these come in a variety of different shades and in matte and lacquer finishes. Although there might be some chunks of glitter in these balms, simply smoothing them out will help distribute the glitter and leave you looking party ready! They’re amazing for their price, and can be found at most drugstores. They’re part of Revlon’s permanent line, and will cost you around $10.00.

5. Maybelline Superstay 14 Hour Lipstick

This lipstick is definitely one of my favorite’s for nights when I know I will be doing a lot of eating, drinking and need to be assured that my lipstick will stay. The lipstick lasts a really long time (as alluded to in the product’s name) and may even be a pain to take off– but it truly does it’s job! Maybelline offers 20 different shades and these can be found at almost any drugstore. They range from $7.00 to $10.00.

All of these lip products are chic, inexpensive options for everyday use or for your nights out. There are so many affordable lip products on the market, so explore these new lip products and so some research on product’s ratings. Whatever lip product you choose, remember to rock your new lip color with a perfect pout or smile. Happy shopping, darlings!
