6 Ways To Decorate Your Dorm for the Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

I love the holidays! There’s just something about this time of the year that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. A big part of the holidays is getting to go home for break. There are friends and family to be seen, good food to be eaten, presents to be given, and corny holiday films to be seen. But being away at school in a dorm doesn’t mean you can’t start getting festive; in fact, your dorm room is the first place you can really start getting holiday ready! To get you guys ready for the holidays, I’ve compiled a quick list of ways you can decorate your room to start spreading that infectious holiday joy and cheer!

1. Buy some window stickers!

Target sells these adorable sticky gel decals that you can put up in your window to let everyone know you’re ready for the holidays! The decals are easy to put up and easy to take down. They are a great way to not only get you and your roomies in the holiday spirit but get passerby excited for the season as well!

2. Invest in some holiday treats!

Getting some hot cocoa packets, holiday-themed cookies, and seasonal candies will not only help ward off hunger while you study for finals, but it will get you and your roommates ready for the holidays! If you’re feeling extra generous, leave out a bowl of candy canes or a plate of holiday cookies for your floormates to grab on their way to and from class!

3. Get an Elf on the Shelf!

My friends and I bought an Elf on the Shelf for our floor freshman year, and it was so much fun! Basically, the idea is to stealthily move the elf figurine around up until Christmas; it was always fun to pose it in funny positions and put it in wacky places. Technically, it’s a tool for parents to spy on their children and make sure they’re being nice and not naughty, but we mainly just featured our little elf on our Snapchat stories. Either way, it’s a fun holiday activity that added a little decorative flair to our dorm!

4. Buy, make, and eat a gingerbread house!

Getting a gingerbread house serves as both a fun activity and as cute decor! You can band your friends together and decorate it, and see how long it stays up in your dorm until it is devoured.

5. Get some cute lighting!

Getting special string lights will instantly put you in a holiday mood. You can get some awesome multicolored lights, blue lights, or pretty snowflake lights to get your dorm looking amazing.

6. Add some holiday blanket or pillows!

Make your bed feel super cozy and holiday ready by getting some decorative pillows and blankets. A fun pillow from Target or a cozy winter blanket will help get you excited for the holidays and help you stay warm in these cold winter months!

Don’t let being in a tiny dorm room turn you into a Grinch! With these cute decor ideas, your room will be feeling bright and cheery in no time.
