10 Ways To Rock Red This Holiday Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

With the holiday season in full swing, there’s one question on everyone’s minds, how to wear the one color that SCREAMS festive: Red!  Since it’s so bold, a lot of people tend to shy away from it out of fear that they can’t pull it off.  But fear not holiday lovers!  Since it is the season for giving, I’m going to show you 10 different ways you can rock red this season, whether you’re looking for a full red outfit or tips to using it as an accent.

1. The Red Lip

Stunner (Matte) by MAC, $16

The red lip has definitely become a widespread trend this year.  Since it is such a bold statement, it is really important to have it be the focus of a look.  In order to make sure you rock it, I recommend doing a natural makeup look as well as wearing a simpler outfit so that the lip pops.

2. The Red Crop Top

Another trend, even for the winter months, is the crop top.  This crop top is from Urban Outfitters and its silk material and lace up detail in the back makes it perfect for a holiday party or night out during break!

3.Red Nails

Gwen Stefani has teamed up with OPI to create a holiday nail color collection.  Above are two options of red, the left having more of an orange hue, which makes it brighter, and the right a deeper red.  Red nails are perfect examples of how to add a pop of red to any outfit.

4. The Red Flannel

If you’re anything like my friends and I, Secret Santa is a holiday must.  Since we usually host it in one of our dorm rooms, the red flannel is the perfect way to be comfortable yet still rock the festive spirit.

5.The Red Knit

Sometimes the holidays call for some much-needed R&R.  For those days when you just want to cuddle up in a huge sweater, this one from Urban Outfitters is the go-to for looking holiday chic on your laziest days.

6. The Red Bag

For all of the holiday parties you are planning to attend, adding a hint of red to your outfit is easy to do through accessories like a clutch!

7. Red Lace

Oh My Lace Frill- Collar Sleeveless Shift Dress Urban Outfitters, $79

Since red is such a strong color, it can come off as kind of overpowering.  In order to avoid this, try finding a red piece in lace.  The daintiness of the lace helps tone down the boldness of the red, leaving you with a classy look that is still extremely festive.

8. Red Skirt

Scallop Embellished Mini Free People, $128

The best part about wearing a skirt is that you can dress it up or down depending on the top you pair it with.  This beaded skirt from Free People is a beautiful deeper red that you can dress up by wearing a silk top or dress down by pairing it with a sweater as the model has on above.  The versatility of a skirt is perfect for the holiday season as it gives you a variety of options on how to wear it.

9. Red Heels

If you’re hesitating wearing a full red ensemble, try adding a hint of red with your shoes.  By doing this, you are still rocking the red look by adding it as an accent instead of having it overpower your whole look.

10.The Red Party Dress
