The Best Oscar Dresses of The Past

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryn Mawr chapter.

With the Oscars coming up, on February 26th, 2017, the excitement is already underway for what the stars will be wearing to the event. In honor of this anticipation, it’s a great time to look back at some of the most gorgeous Oscars dresses of past ceremonies!

1. Mila Kunis, 2011

This stunning gown, designed by Elie Saab, is one of the most beautiful to ever grace the red carpet! The lilac color is wonderful on Mila’s skin tone, and the lace details lend it an air of delicacy that fits the awards show well!

2. Amy Adams, 2013

The feather-gray Oscar de la Renta dress Amy chose for the 2013 Oscars is one of the best she’s ever worn! The ruffled details of the skirt made it a sophisticated choice.

3. Lupita Nyong’o, 2014

A relative newcomer to the Hollywood scene in this year, Lupita Nyong’o’s Prada designed dress solidified her status as a star! The light blue hue makes her look like a modern day Cinderella.

4. Jennifer Lawrence, 2013

Although this dress tends to be remembered as the one Jennifer took a tumble in while accepting her Oscar for Best Actress, the beauty of the dress cannot be discredited! As the official spokeswoman for Dior, Jennifer Lawrence looked amazing in the pale pink ball gown.

5. Rachel McAdams, 2016

When does Rachel McAdams not look amazing? Nominated for her role in that year’s Best Picture winner, Spotlight, Rachel stole just that in this August Getty Atelier gown.

Although there are so many gorgeous Oscar dresses from past ceremonies to choose from, these are a few that top the list. Here’s to the 89th annual Academy Awards, and the amazing red carpet dresses it’s sure to bring!
