Mocktail Competition Winners: TKE

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

On Monday, April 13th, Greek Life kicked off Greek Week with a Mocktail Competition held by GAMMA and MADD. Each fraternity and sorority competed against each other by combining ingredients to make a responsibility themed mocktail for the judges. The mocktails were judged on their taste, originality, presentation, and relation to the theme. The winner of the competition was Tau Kappa Epsilon with their drink called the “Designated Driver.”

HC: What did you call your mocktail and why?

TKE: We called our mocktail “The Designated Driver” because we want to spread awareness about safe driving for college students. We know that drunk driving causes tragic incidents that could be avoided simply by making smart decisions such as promoting a designated driver.

HC: What ingredients did you use to make your mocktail?

TKE: We were dealt a tough hand, as our main ingredient (Dragon Fruit) was nowhere to be found in all of Rhode Island. But TKEs are tough and resilient and always show 100% heart. We were laughed at and ridiculed by several other teams, but put together a tasty mocktail with the following ingredients: 2 Kiwi, 1 Pear, Fruit Punch, Seltzer Water, Liquid Sugar, Lime juice, and Ice.

HC: What did your mocktail mean/represent?

TKE: We carved out small pear triangles that had great significance. The triangle represents the geographic location of the first three TKE chapters which formed a triangle on the map. The triangle also represents a yield sign, which represents caution in decision making for college students. We made sure the drink was red, which is one of TKE’s colors.

HC: What causes does TKE stand for?

TKE: We stand for love, charity, and esteem. TKEs at Bryant focus on being leaders and gentlemen in all settings and situations. Better men for a better world!
