The Five Tips Freshmen Need For The First Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

Sadly, this will be the last freshmen blog series story. We wanted to go off on a note that kind of left all of the freshmen with a final hug and smile before their first day of college. September 4, 2012 hundreds of new Bryant students will begin their first day of classes. Some will have trouble getting out of bed for an 8am where as others will be happily sleeping in until their 9:30am…and then there will be that group of students who will miss their alarm. On that note, let me jump into the final freshmen blog story which is just a bunch of tips, from personal experience, to prepare for your first day of school.

Tip #1:
Don’t you dare forget to set an alarm. On that note, set six. There will be nothing worse than accidentally skipping your first day of classes. It will leave a lasting impression on your professor and just start your freshmen year on the completely wrong foot. I may be acting a little dramatic but I can only imagine what sleeping through an alarm on the first day of classes would be like.

Tip #2:
You can’t just expect you will get out of bed in the morning and know where you are going. That leads me to my second tip, the night before classes start, invite your floor and tell everyone you are going to the Unistructure to look for your classes so you know where they are. It’s not geeky, trust me. The night before classes started a small group of us went and found that the Unistructure was flooded with freshmen girls (I guess the boys didn’t care) doing exactly the same thing as us. Guess what? We made it to class the next day.

Tip #3:
Before you leave for the day of classes plan out a good time to grab lunch with your roommate. Planning to grab lunch together will make you more calm as you enter the craziness of Salmo. Side tip: leave your backpack, purse, wallet, etc. at the table you want to sit at. Trust me when I said nobody at Bryant steals (unless your class is the first to start that sort of trend), so your stuff is safe and you’ll be able to save a table.

Tip #4:
Don’t go to the library on the first day…. No explanation is needed for that. (Okay, unless you desperately need to under a professor’s orders..enjoy syllabus week!)

Tip #5:
Breathe. I learned this word, well the true meaning of it, my freshmen year. Now, it’s always in the back of my head and even in huge letters above my bed. Take a huge deep breath before your first class and sit next to someone cute…you never know what’ll happen :)

Guess what? We would absolutely love to hear back from you!
