Chapter 3: The Naked Roommate Review

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

The third week takes us into the third chapter Roommates Good Ones, Bad Ones and Everything in Between in the book The Naked roommate: And 107 Other Issues You Might Run Into in College. This is a very important chapter because almost everyone here has one or more roommates or suite-mates. Unless you are a lucky person who lives in a single, roommates are unavoidable and you will run into problems. But, if you effectively take care of them, they won’t cause tension. The top two tips in this chapter are:

The Ultimate Roommate Rule: Roommates who want to get along will. As a rule, make rules before you need to make rules. You don’t want to have problems with your roommate, so if you set ground rules early you won’t run into problems!

The Noisy, Naughty, and/or Nasty Roommate: Noisy, nasty, and naughty roommates make for great stories. First you have to live through it. The funny parts starts about three to five years later (depending on the level of the nasty factor).  You’ll get through it, but once again you need to set ground rules so you won’t have problems.  If problems do escalate, get the RAs involved.

Roommates can be fun and awful at times, but chances are, you’ll have a great year with them. And if it is really that bad, the next year you don’t have to live with them if you don’t want to!
