Her Campus B.C. promotes Self Defense for Women’s History Month

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Broward chapter.

After the video of the alt-right member went viral we all want to practice our right hook.

More than that, martial arts have always been about defense. This is something that Her Campus keeps in mind at all time. Something else we keep in mind at H.C. B.C. ( Her Campus Broward College) is the importance for women to defend themselves.

With this in mind, Her Campus arranged for a Self-Defense workshop for Women’s History Month.

The workshop was held on Monday, March 13 at Broward College North Campus in building 47. It went on from 11-1 and was open to the public.

During the workshop, Coral Springs policemen taught the present girls maneuvers for self-defence. The girls were empowered by yelling out the word no through their training.

The workshop included a presentation on ways to stay safe while out and about. The tips included staying alert and off your phone while you are out there and keeping your keys ready at your hand at all times. The lecture also included tips on what to do if someone tries to break into your house or car, and what the best course of action would be when someone follows you on the street.

The event was put together by Her Campus Broward College, to celebrate Women’s History Month. It was the first in a series of four events on the week following spring break.  Water and food were available for those who attended the workshop.

Her Campus at Broward College will also be holding 3 more events this week, which will also be available to the public.
